November Hatch-a-long...

Pics
Sadly I lost the two I had in the hatcher - I was going to give in and assist them this morning when I noticed their movement was slowing down compared to the day before while the air sack had pretty clearly vacuumed to them, but I convinced myself to not be hasty and wait until I was home from work. I'm super bummed I didn't follow my instincts and do it this morning. Two perfect little blue silkies...

Oh well, c'est la vie. Focusing on the future, the first chick is doing wonderfully at two days old, and the final 11 from this same purchase are due to go into the hatcher Tuesday night, so I'm taking this time to make sure I've got my heat and humidity spot-on.

I'm also trying not to spaz about the dozen I added to the incubator Friday night, because I can see so very little development at this point, and it drives me bonkers!

I candles for day 10 yesterday and all of the eggs seemed to be developing except for one that we weren’t sure about. The questionable ones from a couple days ago are in fact developing. The only problem I’m having is that some of the air cells aren’t that great. Some of them are like spot on where they are supposed to be and then others look too large. Any suggestions?
If the air cells are just spots I don't think any chicks will hatch, you can try with dry hatch so they lose more weight. But I wouldn't give a firm advice without seeing..

So what's the humidity now?
Between 28-38%. I'm only going to 50% at day 18 because last time I went higher and they started hatching so it spiked to 80+. I had 9 fully developed chicks that died in the egg and I think it's because the humidity was too high. My air cells looked awful last time, there was no real change and the bator was 45-55% through the whole hatch till day 18.

Well, I didn’t last until spring. And, because I’m a serious glutton for punishment, I bought more shipped eggs. 7 Paint Silkie eggs, 3 are developing. Hatch date is Thanksgiving—shouldn’t that mean at least one will hatch, so I can give thanks? Lol. :fl

About a week ago one of my Serama finally laid an egg. Cracked it to see if fertilized and it was. Of course she hasn’t laid another since. FreeLoading ingrates. :) If she lays another before long, I’ll put it in the incubator too.

I wasn't going to do another hatch but I did... I'm hoping December I won't be doing one, but you never know

This has been one heck of a month so far. I have quail eggs, duck eggs, and chicken eggs in the same incubator. We lost our power for about 24 hours a week or so ago. I had given up on the quail eggs and almost threw them out yesterday because they were supposed to hatch on Sunday. I decided to wait until the chicken eggs hatched should be on this Thursday. Today I have three pips from the quail eggs. Not sure if they will make it. I would like to at the very least get a breeding pair. I bought some frizzle bantams and some Khaki Campbell eggs too. I think I have 4 that might hatch out of 6 duck eggs. Will post if anything makes it.

How do you manage so many different types of eggs in one incubator?

That would make me go bonkers!
