A double whammie stinks. I hope a job comes along soon and chicks after that.
Well now chin up. From me the chicks are free so lets hope you find a new job real soon. To bad there isn't a praying emoticon.
I was in TSC today too. Saw they had Campbells. My plan was to get some but I really need to build a coop for them. And give it more thought.
Wow thanks! I am candling this weekend so will have a progress report soon.
Thanks for all the support. All efforts are going into job hunting. Hopefully if I find one soon I can get a few chicks this time.

I knew Rancher would come up with something of the sort! lol!
Gramma (re: Blondie's pecking order) She's somewhere in the middle. 17 Australorps came after her, but she was bottom of the totem pole before that. I also realized today, after cleaning her poopy butt in my bathtub (eeeeeeewwwwwww) that she has many missing feathers on her butt. Gave her a bath and blew her dry (she crawled onto my lap and closed her eyes... awwww!) and smeared her with NuStock. Maybe she is getting picked on. I'll spend some good time out there Saturday and check things out. No sign of mites and no one else has missing bum feathers.
Sorry to hear that ..I hope you can a replacement job soon .
My husband is retired ..so we downsized some what also .
We got chickens for survival reasons ..If the economy changes we have eggs & we would have chicken if we had to ....
Chickens dont have to be expensive ..They will eat just about anything ..Leftovers ...They eat all our vegetable scraps ..bread , oatmeal
For extra calcuim we grind up the shells & feed it back to them
We went from 3 bags of garbage a week to 1 bag ..
There is a big start up cost ..Building... Protected Run ESP ..
They pay for their feed now ..( Purina Layer ) from the eggs we sell ...
we only have 8 hens ..however if you start with chicks you have to feed them for 5 months before they produce .
But you have that time to get to know them ...they will be tamer if you raise them from chicks ..
Now that sounds like a tasty day!
