NY chicken lover!!!!

So sorry for your loss Pyxis :( that's terrible and one of my biggest fears. There isn't much you can do to protect against that.

In other news this is how I felt when I came inside this morning:

Pyxis--so sorry for your loss! At least you know that your boys did their best to kill it in defending the girls and hopefully the last roo standing makes a full recovery. He deserves to live a long life. Just keep him warm and fed for now. Dont worm or dust him yet. He needs time to recover from his wounds and frostbite and to bulk up.

I only have single comb rir.

Windchills are brutal. Keeping water liquid is a chore. Everyone still runs out the door in the mornings though. I guess I have some tough little and big birds. I hope the rest of you are making out all right. The rabbit has been visiting nightly and cleaning up the bits of crushed feed I dump out of the bowls. Havent seen any other tracks since those fox tracks. The deer are using the roads to travel on because the snow is so deep. Have to watch for them all the time now.

Stay warm everyone!

Thanks everyone. He's still with me, and he's looking better now. Mostly sleeping, but a few minutes ago he woke up and talked a bit and shifted around, and now he's settled back down. His feet are clean, thanks to the soak in warm water to get them to unfreeze, and if he needs to be in a warmer place I'll keep him in the workshop where I keep the baby chicks this time of year with a heat lamp over him. Of course, that's after he recovers a bit.

I am hatching chicks so if there is anything I can do let me know. Plus I have hatching eggs. Mostly EE's and Delawares. Free to you of course. I know how bad you must feel.

To other folks. Lord have mercy will this cold ever let up. I'd like to clean the coops but I'd need a jack hammer. I'll most likely just dump more shaving over the top of everything.

Chicks are doing okay. They're in the basement for now. I'll be setting more eggs soon too. I'll be trying the incu in the basement since the GD is getting the office. Lord only knows where I'll put this computer.

More snow to blow. SIL cleaned off the roof. He was out late shoveling commercial roofs.

Take care and stay warm.

I'm with everyone else... This cold SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to go paint the snow banks green so I can finally see some green again.

Getting impatient...My incubator is supposed to be here today. Haven't tracked it yet, but knowing my luck it won't be till tomorrow.

Got what I think was a good deal. Was out in Syracuse to day and stopped in to Ranchers TSC. Snagged a heated dog bowl for $16.00. I thought that was a good deal. Now how to get the power to it. I already have 2 power cords out there. One is on the timer for the coop lights the other for the outside lights. Maybe I'll try to unplug the outdoor lights and use that cord. I'm just hoping that it will help...I should have got the 2 that they had, but only got the one. Had DD with me on a Mommy and Me day and she was super excited that they had the bins set up for chick days! She loves going in to watch them. She would stand there for hours if I let her. When I told her that we would have a bunch this year ourselves she was over the moon!

I went into the Rutland tsc yesterday and they had the bins set up, no chicklets yes, able to resist for a bit longer ;) I am going to pick up 7 girls on Monday 7 1/2 months old 2 barred rocks (all he had but am over the moon for just them) and 5 ee's

Oh lord, I'm going in there tonight and if they have chicks, after what happened, I think I'll be bringing them home with me.

Rancher, I would absolutely love some Delaware eggs, your birds are beautiful. Not sure how I'd get them though, unless we ship them.
