NY chicken lover!!!!

DW has been cooking all day. Made cookies with the GKs' and everyone had a good time. They also went out in the snow twice today. This is their first time being in the snow. Not their last though since they're moving to Canada.

I don't know where DW gets the energy or what motivates her. I just don't have it in me.

I did staple up some plastic finally on one side of the runs and fixed the wheel barrow. $28 for a tire. Good garden o' peas! Tomorrow I have to clean/freshen up the wooden coop and add a bale of shavings to the hoop coop. I also ran a new cord to put a heater in a waterer. We shall see how that works. Though I'm not sure I want to. The heater I'm considering is 250 watts. After the water bill from the summer and all. Plus I'm considering putting in two heaters.

The ground is all bare since I removed all the snow. When it freezes it will be easier to snowblow. The first time is always rough with the wet and mud. The birds have been out just the same.

How is everyone's egg production? I'm hoping to hatch next month but the count is down. The only thing I can be sure of is the Birchens. The BR's aren't laying. The dels are but I've no where to separate the breeders to. I suppose I could hatch Dels and do a second batch after things warm up.

Marq - any pictures of your Birchens? Hens is what I'm more interested in seeing. Mine are laying ok, but for me ok is 50%. Especially at this time of year.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

We're up to 3 chicks! "The Three Stooges" All look partridge in color. Pearl is being a great momma.

Tab - I am so so sorry to hear about your brother! Big hugs and prayers to you and your family!

Rancher - how did DW like the surprise of your kids coming for the holiday?? We spent the day baking too-or I should say my mother baked with the kids while I wrapped gifts from Santa.

My back is killing me from shoveling the past two days. I told DH we need a snow blower and I WILL be buying one the next time it snows!

I wish everyone a very merry Christmas tomorrow! Enjoy all the time spent together with family!

We have snow!! Not a lot, but it's enough!! I call white Xmas!! LOL. =)

Already been through the stocking -that's allowed until DH gets up.. Santa brought me a workout room/basement TV, a couple of nurse watches and a pile of pricey chocolate that I only eat for/around Xmas (pricey for me means not hershey lol). I already know he's bummed that the egg skelter he ordered me didn't get here, so I'll have to look into that after I 'officially' get the news. :)

Still have to go out soon and fill up chicken waterers, etc - critter work doesn't wait on holidays!! My girls have severely slacked off on laying since I turned off the lights. I have a fridge full of eggs so the lights can stay off until that dwindles down - no use on them putting out eggs I don't need. Only getting 10 or so a day - yesterday only four!

Have a Merry whatever you celebrate!! I offically celebrate Solstice, but I just celebrate it a few days late

Hubby was super excited about the snow last night when we went to bed. It was midnight, so not too bad wrapping.
Have to ask, what is an egg skelter?
I am soo tired and sore, been on my feet and on the go the past couple days. Woke up at 5:30 with little girl coughing a lot. My brother shared his rotten cold with her when she stayed over Sunday. Fever, which we can handle, but with chest congestion. She is 2 1/2, so not much meds we can give her. Poor baby, what a way to spend Christmas. And this is the first one she really understands.
Merry Christmas all!

I was going to ask what a skelter was too. I have never heard of one.

Christmas has been cancelled due to illness.

My MIL, who does Christmas day at their house, is so sick we took her to emergency a couple days ago. She could barely breathe. She's in her 70's and diabetic. They diagnosed her with viral bronchitus. My FIL is on antibiotics and is almost just as sick. We had to cancel for today. I was supposed to have Boxing day here at my house with a full turkey dinner (everything already purchased) and we had to cancel that, too because dh is really sick with (we think) the same thing his mom has.
I have been back and forth to the in-laws bringing them stuff and taking care of their chickens (4 separate coops).
But I did get a new convection oven I've been wanting from dh.

Time to go see how this baby works!

Merry Christmas, everyone!
