NY chicken lover!!!!

Whoever offers to host us, I am grateful. I think it is nice to see other people's solutions, and as a former travel hockey/lacrosse mom, usually I can get where I decide to go. Thank you to everyone who is considering hosting!

And I'll go wherever it is in NY - as I had such a fun time last year .... but I know some can't just up and travel like I can ....

So.....my drive to work was 55F, sunny, with a double rainbow, green grass on the fields. The ride home 6 hours later was snow squalls, 30F and the wind howling like a banshee - ahhh! NY weather!

Metella - would love to come visit with you for chickenstock!

It was sure a CRAZY weather day!! I got my coop cleaned while there were some light rain showers followed by sun and 49F. It felt warmer to me, maybe because I was breaking a sweat....BUT...shortly after the neighbors invited us over to have a beer on their deck, the winds switched direction from the south and came barreling down from the NW while the thermometer dropped like a rock. Must be winter in CNT!

Tomorrow night's going to be ridiculously cold. I hate when we get single digits or below 0. Worry about the girls out there in the coop........

A belated HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone here on BYC, especially our NY thread members! Hope that good health and good times are with you through the coming year.

Sorry for these long absences. The holidays were a blur and we had a health scare with my mom. Lots of driving back and forth for tests. I think she's OK. Not 100%, but as much as we can be for now without putting her through more.

Take care everybody! Stay warm through this bitter cold week. Darn. We had a good run going there for a while without any extreme temp's....

Well now don't worry. My birds in the wooden coop are worse off than those in these half hoops with lots of air. I've got two del pullets who are sick and I think it's the coop!! I've got them separated of course. I think the wood holds to much moisture. Of course the ventilation could be better.

Oh and another panel of fencing blew off.

Thanks...I think worrying is in my genes, Rancher.

I'm sorry about your sick Dels and hope they come around soon.

My Marans hen, Helen was REALLY off one day a couple of weeks ago... she didn't look or act right at all. I brought her inside and she spent 24 hours in our cozy bathroom! She had a warm soak in the sink, a blow dry and some R&R in a roomy crate. After a couple of hours, she started eating and drinking (a lot) and the next day I could tell she was ready to rock and rejoin the flock. Still not sure what that was about, but I don't think she likes the heated water bowl and I'm wondering if she was dehydrated. She drank a lot. Anyway, Helen seems great since then and I'm very thankful and relieved... but hasn't laid an egg since her adventure.

Good luck with the Dels. The Del I got from you is a real live wire. She's a great layer. Took this pic yesterday; not the greatest because it's with the phone, but you can see by her expression she's ready to take on the world, haha.

Hope you and your family had a nice Christmas, Rancher. Also hope your wife is feeling better these days. Happy (healthy) New Year, too.

I let the girls out to play sunday, it was 50degrees. I think we had 10 yesterday, and the wind! Wednesday is supposed to be a low of -12!

@rancher hicks How did you make out with the tree ?

Its' still there. I've no chain saw and no one to help in this cold weather. I may shore it up so it doesn't come down til I can get to it in spring.
Hello fellow New Yorkers! I'm from Pendleton. It's gr8 to see other people WNY
