NY chicken lover!!!!

I'd prefer NOT to start a thread until the place, day and such is settled -as the posts get going and confusing and you can't go back and edit the first post after a certain amount of time ...

but yes - the annual picnic and shindig .... usually held in May

Well now if you come this way and want to deliver a load of layer feed then I might be interested. Would you like to PM me with a price? You're about an hour away from me.

I'm at a quandary in deciding what to do. DW will be retiring and we're talking trips south for a month or two. Who to take care of the chickens while we're away. I can't see not having ANY chickens, but I'll still need someone here to care for them.
i can relate ..we have been staying with friends in fl for the last few winters and my kids would all move hom,e and live here while we are gone ..but that was when i only had 4 birds ..now that theres 22 , no one wants to live rent free for a few months ..huh . go figure ..i also no theres no one that can take as good of care with my birds then me ..i told my wife i would thin the flock down this yr and maybe next yr we can winter again in fl..so gunna miss 85 degree days in feb and warm water to dip in ..never liked ice fishing but i sure can burn up the canals down there ..lol..good luck rancher ..i hope you can find someway to get it done..its well worth the try and warm all winter ..you dont have to shovel sunshine..lol

In my opinion the picnic should be in NY. I'm with Rancher if it is out of state I will not be able to go. A central location would seem to be the best.

Well I just don't figure going out of state since this is a NEW YORK thread. If it's a matter of staying there are a number of good state parks. Some with cabins. It's just that I can only go so far. A day drive isn't go bad.

We expect to be gone the last two weeks of May into June I expect. DW is not a chicken person but she tolerate me. She and my DD's took care of them when I was gone one year for five weeks.

But I didn't know folks were talking out of state. Some folks won't be able to afford a long trip. Though if gas prices are down it might not be to bad for them.

Me it's just a time thing. I need to find someone to care for my flock while I'm gone. I always tell them "just keep them alive".

I tell folks about our picnic when I met new ones at TSC. I give them my card and ask them to join us here. I will post on the bulletin board too.

Just throwing this out there - if Sonew is hosting, she is in Onchiota. That's a four hour drive for anyone in the Syracuse area. If Metella hosts it, it's about the same driving time, just in the other direction. So it might be in VT, but in reality it is no farther than where Sonew is in NY, if she is hosting, for anyone worrying that VT would be too far. But I know at this time Metella was just offering to host it, and I'd be helping. Sonew is a 2 and half hour drive for us as opposed to a three and half hour one like last year, so either way, wherever it is hosted this year would be better for us anyway. I'll check with Sonew and see if she is hosting and report back :)

Yeah - and I only pipped in because I heard someone in NH (which is WAY far) was thinking of hosting it and then couldn't ....

again - perhaps rumors running wild in the IM

I never even gave it a thought to host JUST BECAUSE I am not in NY ..... then I heard those rumors and no set plans .....

So realize and take it that I am just offering a place ! Not that I am wanting you all to pick me ! ha ha I do have enough room for any overnight camping one may want to do

I was toying with the idea of having it here, but couldn't do it until weekend of 16-17 of May, unless we did it later in June.

I live about 10 minutes from Tab, right off Thruway exit 33.

I also wouldn't be able to drive to Vt or NH for a day get together. Probably not to So-new either. My limit is around 3 hours...

Where in VT. I do see Rutland is about 3 plus hours. Might be some folks will only go so far. My problem shouldn't affect anyone else. I'm still waiting on DW and her situation.

But just want whoever hosts to know we may not be here. We need a date and those who are hosting to put it out there so folks can decide.

So perhaps those who are willing to host get together and do "Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock", to see who wins to be the host.

Remember.

Scissors cut Paper, Paper covers Rock,
Rock crushes Lizard, Lizard poisons Spock,
Spock smashes Scissors, Scissors decapitate Lizard,
Lizard eats Paper, Paper disproves Spock,
Spock vaporizes Rock,
Rock crushes Scissors.

Got it?

I believe there is a separate Chickenstock from our NY Picnic, but a few NY "Sharkies" attend.

Not for certain though. I could FB message Tab if we don't hear anything from Sonew via Pyxis. The farther picnic I would be attending alone, as hubby and little girl would not be enjoyable company for that long of a trip. An overnight stay would be required for me.
It's a pain to travel that far, but also know they travel just as far to come to a centrally located picnic. Then what about our WNY peeps? So I say we all take turns, some years will be farther than others. But it makes it fair to all.

Too I think about the birds we carry. May, is good since it's not yet too hot nor too cold. I wouldn't want to impose on Tab and Travis. DW might do it and we do have the school parking lot across the road, but I'm not sure. I haven't talked to her. I don't think our septic system could handle it. We're talking having work done. I kind of wish we had sewer hook up.

Just putting this out there. The house next door is being renovated and I've been told they intend to rent it. Not sure what they'll ask. Location is good in that we're right near good schools.

There is another house on the other side of us that is being renovated too but not sure how much they'll do. It's just a little house. Not sure how much they'll ask for that one either. Both are owned by the same people. I don't like them.
