NY chicken lover!!!!

What's your protein level? I was disappointed in my hens so I switched to Agway Egg Producer pellets. 21% , and they picked up. Silkies are not prolific layers are they? I've read most folks keep them for broody moms. I'd certainly consider it if I had a place for three.

Of course you do know they'd know I don't like Silkies and wouldn't go broody for me. Even if I wore my tin foil hat they'd find out some how what I think of them.

Anyhow, make a check list of what could be the problem and go from there.

They'd all been on feather fixer all winter since I have various birds who decided to molt thru winter and still are now. I believe the protein in that is 18%. This Calf-Manna contains 25% protein though. I think the problem with most my silkies is that they're getting older. My friend on the other hand has a bunch of younger ones and is getting 5-6 eggs a day from them. I'm glad I hatched silkies first last year in December and have at least 3-4 pullets growing out. Hopefully I'll get eggs from them by this summer/fall and can begin hatching from them. If they do give me eggs then the adults may get sold. My frizzled sizzle on the other hand is giving me eggs almost every day, she lays two days I in a row, skips a day, lays another 2 days, skips a day. I have a bator full of her eggs and some that are due to hatch any day. Actually my very sizzle from my own lines hatched yesterday. A cute little blue. Hopefully its a sizzle because I need more. There is a chance it could be a silkie.

Hey All!!

I feel like I've fallen off the face of the Earth! Hope all is well with everyone!

I fired up the 'bator, got B/B/S and Lavender Orps due to hatch (wohoo!! Bring on Spring?).

My ladies a itching for some nice weather!!

Anyone some what local have Jubilee orpingtons, or legbrs? I'd love to get some chicks, juveniles, or adults....

There are a couple of people here who raise Jubilee English Orps, but we're 2.5 hrs from you down here. I know one of the girls ships. I could ask her if you're interested in getting any shipped.

Lynzi, I believe Silkies DO NOT LIKE CHANGE. They are unique and classy.....they like things
to stay their way.

Until they are settle in YOUR new home.....don't expect them to be COMFORTABLE. lIKE YOU
THEY WANT THEIR OWN PLACE. Good hatching. Regards, Aria

I know that Aria, but they have been living in this current home since Sept and I have yet to get an egg from them, even over the summer of living in NY I barely got any eggs from them.

I really really need to clean my coops out, so it needs to warm up already! I especially want to get the layer coop hoed out. Lacie has started laying as of today and I'm gonna let her hatch something, possibly muscovies, possibly some sebbies, so I really want to get the darn thing cleaned out and give her a nice nesting area. She's gone for the same spot as last year, so I want to get a nice pile of hay in there for her to work with.

Also, I was bad today and bought chicks and ducklings at TSC. Two female khaki campbell ducklings to be girlfriends for my welsh harlequin drake that I'm retiring from breeding after this year, two australorps, and two red sex links for eggs. They are all settled in now with my sizzle babies and they are so darn cute!

I also got Raptor settled in with his new girlfriends. There was a quick spat with the head hen and then all was well. His girls were immediately following him around the coop and sticking to him. I think they like him.

the ducklings were sexed at TS?? My TS is getting more in this week, on Monday actually. I'm contemplating picking up some KC ducklings if they get any in.

No, I sexed them :) The guy grabbed two girls on his first try which was pretty funny. I thought I'd have to make him go back a couple times but nope!
