NY chicken lover!!!!

Yep. One of the khaki cambpell eggs I set had a detached air cell. Now the allantoic membrane has grown enough that it is holding it in place. You do need to incubate them upright and only turn them very slightly. Like have them in an egg carton and just gently rock it from resting against one side of the cup it's in to the other.

Good. To know. Got some more polish eggs to hatch for the school because they are white and easy to see through but some have completely detached air cells. Also they got here today and the school will be closed when they would hatch. I'm going to try to keep a few over the weekend and hope they hatch for the school. The rest I will incubate myself.

Pyxis I have 2 khaki Campbell ducklings if you want them. They are just starting to feather, but mostly still down. Wouldn't mind trading for welsh harlequin.

Good luck with them! I just got some isabel leghorn eggs in myself today. They'll be nice and easy to candle, which will be a nice change after these olive eggers, lol.

Thanks for the duckling offer but I actually only plan to keep three KCs and I have ten egg incubating so I'll probably be set :) I will have WHs though if you want them. Holderread lines, very nice, all silver phase. I actually can't wait for them to grow up, they'll be going in with my two drakes who are directly from Holderread and out of their special top show quality breedings. They are gorgeous and I expect gorgeous babies :)

I had a great hatch for a first time. I got 8 ducklings out of 11 shipped eggs. One egg never developed at all, and one was the one that was upside down. I tried to right it but it developed funny and never hatched. Not sure why the last never hatched. It pipped. It looks like 3 girls and 5 boys. All silver phase from holderread lines but not direct from them. I would like a male from a different breeder to go with the girls but good luck convincing my boys to eat our unwanted males.

Congrats! That's not a bad hatch at all. I'm currently looking at 16 out of 17 shipped eggs if none of the others quit. I'm hoping they don't - they all have perfect air cells and look great so :fl

You could try selling your extras on CL. By the way, just so you know, with Holderread lines if you're sexing by beak color it's only up to 70% accurate. You may have more females than you think :) If you'd like a drake from my eggs I could definitely bring one to chickenstock for you.

I was using beak color to sex. I'm really hoping for at least 1 more girl but... Let me think a while on the drake.

That was my thought, the chicken doesn't clean them. Well, I'm glad i have you guys. You're so smart. I'm sure I'll be super annoying when i get my next batch because I'll be asking for help every step of the way.

We're here for you! Ask away! Definitely candle & weigh (if possible) ur eggs when u receive them. If the aircells are mobile, limit turning, as suggested by Pyxis, for the first few days. Also, I find w shipped eggs that it makes a big difference if I have them held at the PO for pickup rather than being driven around all day by my mail carrier. So many details to consider. You will figure it out.

I thought I was going to get bit picking her up, she never changed her shape or moved, like a statue, but growling Lol.
Adding the polish and silkie eggs wasn't planned, had extra room I was expecting to fill with German New Hampshire's from Eight Acres Farm. I was supposed to meet her before we came back up from Florida but she had a death in the family and couldn't. I still want them so I'll have to have them shipped after I see how this hatch goes. It was probably dumb spending $45 on eggs for my first stab at using a incubator anyway, just thought it would be better than shipping.

Sometimes it's like they're in a trance. Definitely driving eggs up fr FL is better than shipped. $45 is worth it if even 2-3 hatch. Good luck to you w ur hatch!!

Today is day 16 and I have removed 18 eggs at this point from the incubator. 7 were duds and 11 were quitters. That leaves me 23 as of now. That's just over 1/2 so if 1/2 of the 23 hatch healthy I'm going to be super excited! !! I have learned a ton from all of you in this thread. Next batch will go into the bator on May 29th, the day after chickenstock, so I can "cook" all my new breeds.

Must be racing season again, 11pm and neighbor is running his big block modified. Usually only does it for five or so minutes a couple times a week but always late at night, no biggie. I got thinking a few times I wonder if they don't like my roosters crowing? Guess I shouldn't worry.

My broodys arent happy with me ...I switched them out of the nest boxes into the baby coop ..
just to make sure they stayed .on the eggs they started .I netted them in .
.they dont come out unless I take them out anyway ...which I normally do twice a day

They should adjust to the move in a couple days ...
