Does anyone keep birdseed out for wild birds and watch them? This is the first year I've had the chance to do it, and have really loved watching TONS of different birds in my yard, and slowly learning... I know I have several nesting pairs of gold finches, and other finches, at least, in my hedgerow of mixed evergreens.
But twice now, once a couple weeks ago, and just now when I went out, I've had baby bird parts in the bird bath (It's under the evergreens, so presumably dropped out of a nest above.... Last time it was an unidentifiable mash, this time is was clearly two legs, separated, no other parts. Any ideas what critter could be eating baby birds? I have a pair of grey squirrels and a red squirrel that hang around. I did also have a pair of cowbirds hanging around for a couple weeks. Could it be their young a mother bird is kicking out?
Anyway, just thought I'd ask here...
