NY chicken lover!!!!

The bee seminar was good. I do not even have bees yet so some of the information was geared towards advanced beekeepers-what Info I did get was great and it was good too see some fellow BYC friends there!

Getting bees from a friend in May, she has 13 hives and needs to split so I am ready to take them! Good local bees.

Going to a ham shoot today at the gun club. Nope, not shooting hams just a piece of paper. Not really sure how it all works, got a gun for my birthday in November but haven't even shot it yet. Actually, never shot a gun. Going today to learn with my DD and try to win dinner.

Lockdown on the Easter hatch eggs is on Wednesday. Getting some Call duck and Turkey eggs in the mail on Monday from another great BYC'er. Good thing I have 3 incubators, 2 are already full. I also have a few (4) Chanteclers that think they are broody. This afternoon they are going into a tractor I have to see who stays. Would love to give them some of these Easter chicks. I may sell the Chantie flock if I get enough of the Am's in the bator to hatch. Not enough room for everything.

because the elected officials decided that they wasted too much energy. They fell it is safer to use mercury filled bulbs than a safe affordable light bulb. I listened to a talk about this on the radio, and "rough service" bulbs from an auto parts store are still legal. They are available in 100 watts, and as a bonus, can take a beating before blowing. They have stronger filiments for the service industry's.
why have 100 watt bulbs be banned?

that is crazy! Our government doesn't have anything better to do than determine how I light my house? I do use flourecent(sp? I still can't get spell check to work on this site) in most places, but sometimes I just want incandescent lighting.

The government wants to control everything we do including lighting.

trilyn, Thanks for introducing us to Doug. I am
looking for BEARDED Silkies.

Doug said: his were not bearded.

If you know anyone nearby that has bearded Silkies
that would be helpful. I am looking for Bearded
Silkies, Regards, Aria

The government was lobbied by those who produce the bulbs, that are considered HAZARDOUS WASTE....sure they save a little on the electicity we use, but really....we can't just throw them in the trash like the old bulbs. And I just KNOW everyone is going to take their blown CFL bulbs to the town hall collection box (open M -F, 8-4 ONLY)....instead of just throwing them in their household trash. Right? Ummm...NO...I can't get there during work hours, I have to WORK for a living....so mine, when they finally blow, are going in the household trash and are going to be contaminating your ground water. Sorry.

My friend said she has some bearded hatching next week if you want her info I can send it to you. She is in Canastota.

pharmchickmom: Did find a Doug (from the forum).
Was in touch and found out he does NOT have bearded.
He has white, black, partridge, blue chicks for $2.00 a
chick. When I called and spoke to him ...found out
they are NOT bearded. We only want BEARDED.

On the search AGAIN. Regards, Aria

*raises hand* I was one of the BYC friends - we kept waving at each other.

I thought it was great when the one speaker said, "how long does it take to grow out a meat chicken?" and a bunch of people all over the room piped up with "six to eight weeks." I told Alan that we're among our people!

I just loved it - I'm a biology geek at heart. I ordered two packages of Italians from the apiary in Pennsylvania, as everyone I contacted locally was out, darn the luck. We're setting up one of Alan's 30-year-old traditional wooden hives and a new Beemax hive to see which one does better. Technology vs. old-school!
