NY chicken lover!!!!

Ventured out to Tab's today to get a silkie hen. She is so tiny and so cute! (when you see a pic of my silkie you'll see why I'm calling her tiny LOL) And she's a year older than mine. I'm beginning to second guess if mine is a roo.

Anyway, we cleaned her up after getting a little messy in the box she was and here she is...

And here is a pic of mine to the left of her, (23 wks old)

What do you all think? Roo???

Whew, busy day today. Will be rehoming Mr. Noisy Pants (AKA Q-Tip) one way or the other tomorrow. plus, one of my easter pullets just started laying some really gorgeous colored green eggs. Not really sure who it is - all the EE's don't really look ready, but a few of the NN look close enough - they are supposed to be OE naked necks, so I am thinking it's one of them. Haven't caught any of the young ones in a nest box yet. =)

Lynzi--she is beautiful! When she fills out she will be gorgeous. Yes, the one next to her is a roo. Handsome guy! You have a very nice looking pair.

Ok but what if he has been "squatting" like my others have been before they started laying? I asked my daughter to go get her silkie for me so I could introduce it to the one I got from Tab today and I watched as she walked over, just easily scooped her up and brought it back to me (the whole time I'm wondering how my daughter is the only one who is able to "catch" this bird) but she did squat down when I my daughter got over to her?!? What is going on with this one? LOL Do the roosters do that too?

Lynzi---from what I can see in the pic, it looks like a comb and wattles to me. A good head shot would be helpful. If you look under the beak and see wattles, its a boy. Sometimes thats the only way to tell in silkies when they are growing as their combs dont show until later. Thats how I always discovered my boys were boys!

On another subject Lynzi, it looks like you used 1/4" plywood for your coop. Is that true and did you use it for all four sides?

Oh I did, thats why I kept saying I'm not happy with it, it definitely won't last and I will have to purchase something more sturdy. LOL I keep seeing those A-Frame coops and I'm tempted to buy one this weekend. Especially seeing how small this new silkie is. I'm thinking of keeping this silkie roo with the others since he isn't as tiny and keeping this hen and the roo I'm getting from Adoravachick in the new coop.
