October Hatch-a-long 2022🎃🐣🍁

It can. You may consider having them hatch slightly upright at an angle with the largest part of the air cell upwards.
Others let them hatch on their sides.
One of mine from a few years ago. Had a huge saddle. I drew a dotted line where the air cell should be. Gives you a better idea of the actual size of the aircell.😊View attachment 3304412
Okay thank you! This makes me feel better haha. When you only have 3/19 survive you get very paranoid 😆😆

Well...I don't see any external pips yet and the temp is still being wonky ... I've got 2 govee hygrometers in there so I'm goin between the 2 rather than the brinsea incubator temp. I sure pray that's not a mistake!
Tomorrow is actual 21 days so we'll see.
I'm wondering if the shelf liner maybe a hair too large and that's cuasing the temp problem? 🤔
@kurby22 don't feel bad...half mine look the exact same!!!
Okay cool!! Let me know how many of them hatch! I will definitely be having them hatch upright to help them out! I want so bad for all three to make it

Too late for mine...I'm sure there are some internal pips and I wrote on em so much marking em during candling each time I'm struggling to see external pips...so I'm not gonna chance it.
🍻 to Buff Silkies!!!

Good morning everyone still on the thread!🥰
How is it going with the incubations?
@Gammas Bearded Babies and @kurby22 any progress? I’m over here in Hawaii at work looking foward to your hatches!🤣

Well I think I finally saturated the Silkie market in my area! Or maybe it’s the time of year. I’m not going to do any more hatches until Spring. I know I’ve said this before but I mean it this time!🤣 I have 22 chicks right now. Remember how I said I wasn’t going to keep any of Layla’s chicks?
Guess I get to keep all of them for now, the three buyers I had for her 11 chicks all backed out at the same time which was very odd. They all decided to wait until Spring. Weather here in Hawaii is not really an issue and chicks can be raised all year. Anyway it looks like I’m going to have a lot more grow outs then I had planned! I do have the space for them all as they are small, hopefully I can sell them off of heat when they are six weeks old.
Many people around here don’t want to brood chicks.🤞

That stinks!!!
I'm so sorry!
But hey you'll get to see how each one does and keep the best of the best now!!!

We just came home from DH cataract surgery post-op and 1 baby has hatched and 2 more external pips!!!
It's very sleepy so must have just hatched! I didn't even think that one had pipped before we left either!

Yes it’s amazing how they can all of a sudden just be there when you don’t look! Kind of like a watched pot never boils…This last hatch of Layla’s I was checking on them about once an hour and when I came back one time, three had hatched that weren’t even externally pipped!🤣

Oh no! That is always my fear when I hatch chicks for people haha. I had a wait list, hatched the babies and then half of them ghosted me. I know it is part of the process, but it's a bummer. But like @Gammas Bearded Babies said, now you can see how they grow out and keep the best ones! :D
