October Hatch-a-long 2022🎃🐣🍁

Pics
I’m apart of the chick fest now:love
I got back home from work a few hours ago, and right as I checked on broody hen, I noticed an eggshell outside of her bowl nest, lo and behold, she had a baby!
99% sure the chick hatched from one of my RIR hens’ eggs, the eggshell color matches and it has a slightly similar look to them as chicks. One other egg had an external pip, one of reese’s own eggs she’s sitting on.
Pictures below, sorry for poor photo quality.

I love how lil’ chicks snuggle up to their mama!

@3KillerBs the breeder I got my Australorp eggs from said there was a chance I might get a splash chick. I’ve never had any experience with BBS genetics, so do either of these chicks look like the “light” colored down you’d expect to see if it was splash? I included two pictures of each chick, but I don’t know if it uploaded them in the order I was hoping for. The darker one with the light down at its throat is with the dark brown mama and I’m pretty sure is blue because it’s down is pretty evenly grey all over. The one with the light brown mama has lots of yellow/light patches, and that’s the one I have questions about.

I scooped a chick up to ensure that it knew where the water was and saw foot feathers.

A Cochin egg got into my Australorp eggs again.

I have GOT to get the pen divider up.

When you breed blue to blue you get, in theory, 50% blue, 25% black, and 25% splash.

Random chance has not favored me.

My splash chick is yellow-white all over. It's normal for blue chicks to have light bellies and throats.

Lockdown for the precious shipped eggs!
:wee:wee:wee

Still have nine eggs going strong here DAY 17. They will likely hatch again while I am at work. Trusted daughter will be on chick duty.😊
Hatch day is Saturday and I’ll be home Friday afternoon, so hopefully I’ll be there for the tail end of things.
I have five different colors in the 9 eggs so I separated them out in the egg cages.
In the largest cage I have 3 white, 1 black and 2 buff. Hopefully the white will be distinguishable from the buff at hatch as white chicks often have buff colored down.
In the next cage I have the 2 porcelain.
And all by it’s lonesome is the 1 lemon cuckoo. I assume the porcelain and the lemon cuckoo will look very much like the buff, that’s why I separated them.
Shortly after these chicks hatch they’ll be banded and the cages can be removed.
Can’t wait!🥰

Test hatch 2 for Lili/Niko:
Lili: 5 set, 1 EQ, 1 with 4 toes each foot, 1 with 5/4 toes. Other 2 look great. All full bearded.
Niko: 3 set, all with good feet, though 1 is non bearded, 1 is half bearded and 1 is full bearded.

I will not be using Lili for breeding and possibly also Niko unless I have a different rooster to cross them. Will have to wait some time to see if that makes a difference.
In this set there were also 3 of Layla’s eggs, all 3 chicks look great. I think also there was one “oops” egg from my bantam Cochin. Chick is paint, bearded, has 5/5 toes. Will have to wait until it is 5 days old when the wing feathers start to come in to be certain.😊
