First one DOES look lavender, guess you will have to wait and see when it is all fluffed up. Second one looks mottled. 😍

When I opened up the chicken coop this morning 3 of the broody's eggs were on the floor. 2 ice cold and 1 lukewarm. The two ice cold had no movement, the lukewarm one I *think* I saw movement. One of the ice cold ones had a large crack around the shell-no liquid just dried membrane (no one had started to eat it either)

I know they say mothers know best but I did put it back under her. I candled the other 3 and every looked good and they were warm. I will be going out soon to check and see if it got kicked out again or not. I hope she gets some that hatch as I won't be able to find chicks and breaking her know will be so hard.....
So sorry.😞 Hope at least some of them hatch!

I had a broody raise a single chick. They did fine and now the chick is almost full grown and they are still best buds.
I had them separated from the flock though for too long I think. It took forever to get them integrated back into the flock.😊

Are you sure you don't have a rat problem?

Would they leave the eggs? I have never seen a rat or rat droppings. There are other eggs under her that are staying warm and in place. Also, the 3 eggs that hens laid this morning were right in the nesting box next to her without a hen on them.

I did open up two of them and they look like a saddled air sac and were almost shrink wrapped, also looked a little farther away from hatch in development than 3 days.

Just went and checked and the one I put back was back on the floor. Down to 3 eggs.

Very eventful day! Finally trapped a critter that's been terrorizing my backyard all year!
1 opossum down and 2 coons to go...and I'm sure there are more!
4 lil baby cochins hatched and doing very well! The 5th one hasn't internally pipped so gonna leave it in another day or so but 4 yr old grandson looked at me and said "I think he went to be with Jesus Gamma."
They are too stinkin adorable and I tried hard to take pictures as they hatched and label em but with the possum and everything I have definitely lost track of which is which color (all 4 are supposed to be different yet look practically the same to me now that they are fluffed up!)
Guess they'll be staying a while lolol!

So seeing how it is a bit too early for the Halloween hatch-a-long, thought I would see if anyone is interested in joining in for an earlier October hatch.😊
I have a test hatch planned for two newer layers, 10 month old Silkie sisters.
This will be third generation with my paint Silkies. Chicks will hatch out black, paint or dominant white. Hoping for some good markings in the paint chicks and not just flecks of black. Have buyers lined up for most of them.
Setting tomorrow with expected hatch date of 10/2/22.
Photos of the upcoming chicks’ parents.
