I was a little concerned about air cells after candling so I left the turner off for a day and then candled last night when I plugged it in. 19/25 shipped eggs are showing development. I'm amazed! Not counting them yet of course, but it's going better than I'd hoped!:fl
I can't really see air cells in mine... Should I shut my turner off for a day? I guess I'm not sure where and how to see the air cell

Broke down and candled tonight (Day 9 and 12, respectively, for a staggered hatch). Pulled three clears and a blood ring, sadly including the two mystery bantams which I was looking forward to :(. The three ODs are chugging along fine, tho. The remaining eggs were all too dark-shelled to see through (sage and olive eggers, a couple dark brown, and a blue). I'll have to hunt down a stronger candler if I want to see in there when I candle before first lockdown Thursday night (ODs hatch for us on Day 19, which is Saturday next weekend). Once the three ODs are done, we now have 8 assorted LF of various EE crosses due a few days later.:fl:fl:fl

What's an OD?

Mine are loose from shipping. If you shine a light into the eggs from the top you should see an air cell. Here is a chart, look at the day 5 pic it shows a good image.

How long have your eggs been in your incubator and were they shipped?

They've been in there for 3 days now. They are from my chickens outside, I have 2 roosters and the red sex links eggs are 100% fertile.

Since they're fresh and not shipped you probably wouldn't see much if any air cell at first. By the time you candle at day 7 you will though. I mark my air cells with a pencil at that time so I can compare to the size at day 14. Then compare to a chart to see if they're about right. You can adjust humidity if they're too big or small to compensate a little bit.

Some use a weight chart and gram scale to measure but I've never done it that way.

Good luck on your hatch!

Ok thank you for your help. I'm so scared that nothing is going to happen with these eggs. I've checked the same two eggs every day since day 1. But still seeing nothing besides the yolks darkening a bit.

What day are you on, FortCluck? By day 4 you should see some blood vessels if they are viable eggs. Just what it sounds like, little red lines should be easily visible in your eggs.

It took me a bit to find the air sac also, these are gonna be at the wide end of the egg, and ... to see them you'll maybe need to have the light shining kind of through the side of the egg toward the wide end, and then the air sac will literally jump out at you as being way lighter.

The people who suggested marking the air sac at day 7 and 14 are spot on, I wish I had known to do that earlier in this hatch!!!

I'm only on day 2.5. Day 3 starts at 7 pm tonight.

I just compared my eggs in the incubator to just a fresh egg I got out of the coop... Saw the air sacs and definite egg development...

My twin egg has two developments for sure. My husband was like WOOOWWWW when I showed him.
