me too! I have managed not to do any tinkeringFor better or worse Im in lockdown now.![]()
That is fascinating!!!! Do you ever feed them anything or just let them forage? Do you grow crops for them? What breed are they? What kind of laying rate do you get with them being all forage? Are they primarily for meat or for eggs?My feral chickens taste gamey . They eat just what s on the land and are pretty wild .
DANGER! you can barely see the little guy/gal on top of the cage but he/she has been pecking at the wires going to the fan and heating unit. Pretty scary. I might have to rethink my use of cages. Not going to open it up to spare the life of one stupid bird and risk shrink wrapping those who have not hatched yet. Complications! but its all part of the fun.

I hope not either, but post pics when it's out! How exciting.OMG I have a chick starting to zip. I just went into lockdown yesterday. What the heck? Its one of the extra eggs that were included with the Orpington eggs, that is a Golden Cuckoo marans, I think. That one was in the incubator that was having really whacko temp swings. I hope he doesnt have two heads haha.
Reading that just stressed me out even more. It's so humid where I am. The incubator has been running between 49% to 60% humidity.I found this thread an interesting read. I've opened my incubator while eggs were pipped and didn't have issues. I've also marked eggs that were more porous than others and made notes about the chicks that hatched. Eggs with different levels of porosity require different levels of humidity during incubation and lockdown in my experience.
"Shrink wrap" vs. "Sticky chick"?
