Hmm it wouldn't surprise me if the type of incubator would affect who can get away with it. I've had two instances where a single egg out of a group of 9+ got shrink wrapped, both in my brinsea octagon eco 20 (I mostly get excellent hatches out of it though). I haven't had any issues with shrink wrapping yet in my nurture right 360. The humidity doesn't drop much and returns back to the desired level quickly in both my incubators. I've had to open the incubators and assist quite a few times (mostly with shipped eggs) and I have yet to have an egg shrink wrap after I opened the incubator, I try to keep my humidity a little on the higher side during hatching so I can assist if needed. The two times shrink wrapping did happen were times I hadn't had to open the incubator.

It would be really interesting to hear others experiences with shrink wrap.

I'm also curious as to how everyone actually defines shrink wrap. I've always thought it was when the tough outer membrane shrinks and tightens around the chick but most pictures I've seen titled shrink wrap it's just the thin inner membrane, are both considered shrink wrap?
Shrink wrapped is that internal membrane that shrinks around the chick during incubation. IMO it's not caused by opening the incubator but by the porosity of the egg. At least based on my experience.

I had eggs from different sources and some were more porous than others and it certainly had an impact on the size of air cells during my hatch. I ended up with a few chicks from those more porous eggs that were dry sticky and one that spilled a bunch of clear liquid when it hatched and was very wet.

Hi! My first post here. I have 22 Ameraucana/Easter Eggers set to hatch on 10/21/2019. This is my second group of hatching ever. I have had chickens for 8 years. Until grandchildren took an interest, I purchased new chicks from local breeders. In the Spring I will have Cream Legbar, Death Layers, Lavendar Ameraucana, and Salmon Favorelles eggs. This is fun!

Welcome to the HAL, it's good to have you Rita!

I have 3 CCLBs, a couple cochins, and a couple of seramas due to hatch next thursday. I have already removed all duds or quitters, so hopefully we get alot of hatchers, but the breed of my focus is the legbars, they sell at ridicoulous prices, so if i could just get a breeding pair, i would be off! But I am of course aloso hoping for the seramas and cochins to hatch as well. But Especially cochins, as I dont have any, these are shipped eggs btw.
I have Cochins and they're very nice looking chickens. When they run its hilarious, they look like they have bell-bottoms on. We have a white Cochin and a black Cochin.

Haha, cant wait to see some of my own, and I might be ordering some Lav Orp eggs after this hatch is done, all depends on the "chicken budget." Lol

I'm going to cross my Cochins with my black jersey giants to see if they'll be even bigger when they grow out. I love that my roosters are BJG because it makes my crosses bigger which is nice for meat birds and for my own layer flock.

Have my first blood ring... So down to 32 eggs now. Checked the twins and you can actually see both clearly. This is so amazing!!! I'm so glad y'all posting incubating pics convinced me I need to do it. This has been the most amazing experience and brings back memories of my grandfather candling ostrich eggs with me... I miss that man more than anything!

I removed chicks from the incubator this morning as soon as I woke up. I forgot to take pictures and all of them are under the brooder plates to keep warm, maybe pictures later today, I had 3 I had to hand hatch one is out and moving, one is out and laying there, another one isn't breaking out of the egg fully after I put the egg back together (I make them simulate breaking out because I have had better survival rates if they do that)
