October Hatching ... How many are in? I'm due to hatch on 10/17

I've done it again! Another batch of staggered hatches!

After candeling I have 5 Coronation Sussex due to hatch on the 13th.

I had a serious issue with some Speckled Sussex eggs and I was able to find someone locally who had some, but they weren't laying reliability, so she was only able to give me 2 eggs. Set them and they are developing! Due on the 16th.

I just set 6 more Speckled Sussex last night, due on the 23rd!

I'll also be setting more Coronation Sussex, if it's in the next 8 days, they will also be October babies!

O goodness, Lets talk about staggard hatch dates. Mine are 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 21, 23, 25. And what ever I get from the swap. I'll just have to leave some empty spaces. So who ever gets me, I'm taking out 8 chicken eggs on the 9th and i'll leave those spaces for my swap eggs. I'll be ready. I have 35 quail in lock down now and are due today. I've got 19 quail in one brooder and 6 chicks in another brooder (chickens). That leaves me with 1 brooder left to fill and maybe if these eggs hatch i'll have that. I've been having problems with my temps since last month. I thought I had it under control but with the weather changing and getting cold at night the temps drop in the bators which are LG's. My hatcher is a hovobator and it maintains temps alot better but tends to spike around the same time every night. If we had central heat and air I wouldn't have such a problem. I always loose chicks just before they hatch or they have foot problems when I hatch during the winter.

DH is going to build me a cabinet bator as soon as we collect all the parts for one. I have instructions and several of the parts now. I found a couple of good fans on ebay for $7.95 each with free shipping. Can't even find that at the dollar store. These we won't have to take apart to use just the fan and motor. They are 5.5" fans for a computer so they are low volocity. I have the heating element and humidity pan. I need a kit to run a hose from the bucket to the humidity pan. The electrical wiring, outlets and switch are probably out in the shed and if not DH's brother is an electrician. We need the wood and the plexiglass to get started. Then we have to get 3 more turners. I'm hoping I can get some donations from some nice folks here at BYC.

I placed an ad on craigslist that I wanted old incubators.

Thanks for the encouragement. I have 7 silkie babies now. One got stuck good and I did the naughty...took it out and helped. It was a good thing cuz there was no way it could of gotten out on its own. So while I was at it I took out the dry babies and slipped in the 19 marans eggs lol. Then I poured water on the sponges added another one and shut the lid. The humidity popped right back up immediately so I hope nothing bad happened. That bator is really crowded now.

Thanks, I need it. I just had a manchuren chick hatch so it look like that batch isn't ruined. I just hope it's not the only one out of 36 eggs. As I take eggs out for lock down, which by the way, those dates are lock down dates. I put more in.

emvickrey: Whaaaat....how many dates? OMG U R the Queen of Staggard Hatches!!! I'd go nuts hatching that many that close together. I would totally get them mixed up LOL!

I am in.

I have 14 blue/blue splash orpington's, and 12 buffs. These are shipped eggs, and the one gal could not send extras, so she included some millie fluer d'uccles. Which I love! So I am really hopeful. My last hatch only produced one BCM. She is so cute. However lonely, so I bought her two friends! Much Happier.

If I put them in at 6 am is that day one? The humidity is kind of high. But how does one take the humidity out?
