Well, I thought I was in but the I haven't heard from the person I am suppose to get some eggs from. I set some other eggs a couple days ago...So looks like I will have a before xmas hatch.
I set 9, 4 purebred Quail OE Bantams, 3 Standard Game on the OE Rooster just to see what they turn out like, and 2 I *think* came from my D'Anver/OE pullet to make 75% OE with a touch of D'Anver (hoping for rose combs and a small beard on a game body) but they might be from the OE hen, or the D'Anver hen... didn't catch the hen that laid them so not sure. They've been in for 3 days, can't wait to candle and see what's happening! My last hatch was 100% and they're a week and 2 days old now, healthy and goofy!
My little leghorns are not hatching on day 21. I suspect that bad things might have happened in my other incubator while I was waiting for the one incubator to stabilize. So, with it feeling like a fridge outside, no matter what I get, this is it for the season.
new2chooks, you hadn't guessed that before? I thought I was too, but winter is breaking my addiction pretty quick. Spring we can do. Early summer maybe. Fall and winter, the losses after hatch are just too high. If our situation were different, maybe.
Kathy, I wandered to your byc page to take a look at your silkies (Yes, I want eggs come spring!). I really love the picture of all your chickens free ranging.
