I have WHAT in my yard? :

My allergies are SO much worse this year than they were last year!!

I don't know if there is more pollen or not, but it is keeping me indoors and having to have the air on when I HATE the air conditioning especially when it isn't necessary. As a result I am having to use drugs to manage my day which totally blurs any and all senses... Yuck.

have you ever tried nettle extract? i am an archaeologist and i have to be outside in some of the worst allergy conditions. i have always used herbs but didn't think there was anything natural that could help with allergies, and believe me i've done a LOT of research to that end. turns out nettle extract really helps me at those times of year and i am totally sold on it now. you should be able to get it from any decent herbal shop and if there are none in your area it is not too expensive online or hard to find. anyway just hate to see anyone else suffering, so it might be worth trying for you too.

i put a dropperful (=about 20 drops) in the last swallow of a cup of coffee or tea, you can't taste it at all, and it lasts a couple of hours for me. never had to use more than about 4 doses a day (so far).

I will try anything. Zertec is expensive!

Those neti pots freak me out!! Nothing goes up my nose!

Aww.. I feel sorry for all of you with allergies..

They can be a terrible thing, and IMHO, the drugs to treat them are worse than the allergies...

IHWIMY, I feel for you. It is very very easy to get ones "senses" dulled, and not so easy to get ones senses tuned. I absolutely 100% can not take allergy medication they make me sick. Personally it is a downward spiral, the more you use the more you need..... Do find an herbal solution! One needs to practice mental control over allergies too.

* Here are things that have worked for us. Put a little petroleum jelly, inside your nostrils to block things that irritate. Then will your self to not have allergies. Stay calm resist they itchy irritated feeling.

* A warm or cold wash cloth over your eyes and nose, while meditating in a relaxing location. Possibly putting a relaxing calming herbal essential oil on the wash cloth too..

* Use lots and lots of RAW LOCAL honey. Matter of fact only use raw local honey year round. I believe it helps your body acclimate to the local pollens.

* Grow your favorite herb in the house, so you can grab a sprig and sniff it when needed. (We like lavender and Rosemary..)

cerridwenn's nettle extract sounds great.. We will need to get some at our house. (Thanks for the tip!)

neti pots? If they are herbal inhalers, like those chap stick shaped tubes you sniff,, we used to like them very much.. for occasional sinus or allergies. know we just grow our own herbs, fresh is soo soo nice and calming.

I wish you all the best with conquring your allergies in a drug free manner!.. Remember, it is not the pollen it is YOUR body OVER reacting.....

Ooooh, I thought the Neti pots were those things that you use with water or whatever, and pour it in one side and it comes out the other.

Put a drop of Tea tree oil in it and sinus infections clear up quick.

Really?
Thanks for that! I have been getting at least 4 sinus infections per year since living in a horrible, uninhabitable house full of mold (rented to us by aweful, unscrupulous people)3 years ago. I have been searching for something I can do myself to get rid of them. I just hate going in to the doctor and getting antibiotics (just the NAME freaks me out sometimes!) when I know already exactly what I have wrong with me.
So far the best natural solution I have is not getting sick in the first place (by improving diet, getting enough sleep, etc.)
I shall try this next time.
