Matthew Ryan.....gluten free foods are food that are wheat free, right? Comfort foods to you are sweet or savoury? What kinds of foods do you miss? I am a chef and I probably can help you out with some awesome recipes, might even put some of that weight back on!

Well, if we get hunted for being witches, I would say in this day and age we have better means of protecting ourselves!

And chickenvirgin thats correct to a point, wheat free is almost the same as gluten free. the problem is wheat is not the only gluten grain out there, and furthermore gluten is used as an additive and a binding agent and a stabilizer with or without the wheat in soo many products. And, I have as of yet to find a chocolate pie with whipped cream that is the same gluten free as it is gluten filled

It may not be healthy but darn it I love my pie!

Hmmm makes me think of the movie Chocolate.... (I love that movie..)

Matthew, your story makes me want to get on my soap box and rant....

I am one of those very "angry" with the industrialized pig slop we call food in the USA. Just start to read labels, try and buy foods with out corn, soy or wheat extracts (or what ever you call the components they break the stuff down to before reassembling it into something we are trained to call food.)

Yes the USA has cheap convient food, but we are the fattest nation on earth, also have the highest health care costs, and not spectacular life spans.

Most importantly our so called food, dulls ones senses both physically and mentally. It causes sickness, depression and lowers ones overall quality of life!

My personal "brand of spirituality" has a strong earth based component. I am realizing my physical body is simply part of this earth, so treating it well, listening to it and respecting it only makes sense.

For me this approach to making difficult life style changes works, because it pays dividends in an increased sense of internal peace, increased awareness and increased physical energy....I am by no means where I personally what to be yet but the path clearly leads to continued life style changes......I am begining to see food as only fuel for the body and mind. Ideally many of those foods are organic, whole and natural. Gathered, harvested or grown by me.

I think it's the overprocessed foods ( if you want to call it that) at the store that causes all the problems. What we all need to do and I know it's not as easy as it sounds, is buy locally, grow what we can and learn to can and freeze produce for the winter and get back into cooking things from scratch instead of buying things premade. Everything that we buy premade at the stores can be made without all the additives at home. The internet is great for finding recipes. I grew up with a mother that everything that came into the house was either canned or frozen and overprocessed ,ever try canned spinach?

. Now I grind my own wheat to make bread, buns and dog bisquits, buy pork and beef and raw milk locally from the farmers, make my own yogurt, salad dressings, mayo and my hens lay my eggs. I still buy my chicken from the store because I am still too much of a city girl to raise meat birds and them butcher them. Hi! by the way, my name is Lori

I don't believe in god but am very spirtual. I like to think that I am a little Witchy!

Lori, Yes well said...........................................!
Simply reduce the processed foods. I believe one with a gluten "allergy" could have home ground wheat made into bread, after a "break" of no wheat or gluten to let the body recover. Yes home made food from local ingredients ROCKS! We just started making yogurt a few months back. (As part of my probiotics fanaticism including water kefir and Kombucha...I absolutly love home made yogurt! So sweet it does not need added sugar or worse yet corn syrup...

I personally feel (IMHO) if you eat meat you should kill and process it yourself..
wink.png
(At least some of the time.) I feel this helps one "ground" them self, fully grasping the reality of being an obnivore. No need to raise meat chickens personally a nice dual purpose heritage breed is better tasting than any "modern marvel" hybrid meat bird..
(I eat very little chicken personally, have a preference to eggs, fish, beef or venison as a source of protein/amino acids some days of the week.)

On "god" my humble opinion at this moment in time is this:: Believing or not believing in "god" has more to do with the definition of the word "god". I choose to feel it is not my place for my fragile egg shell mind to define god.. Therefore I readily reject most definitions of god as an entity or being of any sort. I can accept the word "god" as a term to attempt to explain the cooperative interactive "energy" of living and inert object on our planet and assume the universe. For me the "sense" of this "energy" is the basis of my spirituality which in tern leads to my "Witchyness". I generally avoid the word "god" and choose to use the words like "energy" "aura" "spirit" "soul" or dozens of other terms Pagans or Native peoples have used through out time...... I suppose in reality it is all only semantics, since their are many paths to internal oneness and peace...

Missed a few days on this thread and now I am way behind on the topics!

Food discussion... I wish I had more patience and energy to put towards my eating habits as well as the money. I wish it was cheaper to eat healthier but in alot of cases it just isnt. When I put myself on my high protein well balanced diet I feel like a million bucks, but it also ends up chewing holes in my wallet as well.

I would like to think that I could slaughter and hunt my own food but in all honesty I wouldn't be able to slaughter a cow... and beef is my meat of choice. I have no problem collecting eggs... well once I start getting eggs. I can fish! Sadly I dont like fish except for canned tuna... but I cannot seem to get any of those on a line in a river around my area.

God discussion... well God is God, unless you are dyslexic then its Dog.

total joke there not meaning to cause insult or injury. Mankind will forever have varied ideas on who or what God is. Scientists even jump on the bandwagon these days! Wars will continue to be fought over who is correct in their interpretation of God as well. Most people have their views and are content with that and others demand that they are correct and any who disagree should be shown the light. Me I believe in God... although the definition of God changes from time to time and his name changes depending on my purpose and intent... and sometimes God isnt God at all but Goddess instead!
