In the previous thread, Merry Yule & Happy Solstice, someone recommended the book "God against the gods". I finally got it out of the library. Thanks for giving the recommendation! I am looking forward to reading it.

I am Christian, but I am finding this thread very fascinating. I have some questions though, if you wouldnt mind helping me out. Fist of all, I want to say these are SERIOUS questions, I have absolutely no intention of trying to get in a debate or anything like that. I find this all very interesting. I know with all of the recent things happening here, you may not want these questions in here at all, and if you don't I understand, so just say so.

My first question is about the 'paths'. What do you mean by this? Is it the different types of paganism which is followed in different countries/areas?

I am also wondering about magick. First of all, why do you spell it that way?

It looks cool. And is it truly spells, or that sort of thing, or something else?

Who is the Goddess- I am assuming Mother Earth? So what about the other gods, goddesses, etc. which were worshiped in Native American, Ancient Roman and other 'pagan' countries? And what exacly is paganism? I always thought it was the worshipping of more then one God.... but I may be really mislead on that, I have no idea.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a really curious person.

My knowledge of paganism is still in its infancy but I think that I can answer the questions about the different paths. Most people are familiar with Wicca. Wicca is a nature based religion. All Wiccans are pagans but not all pagans are Wiccans.

There are other forms of paganism. Reconstructions pagans, for example, try to recreate their worship as authentically to the ancient rites as they can. There are Druids, Voudoun, Santeria, Shamans etc. Some pagans work in groups and some are solitary.

Those who take a little of this and a little of that are considered eclectic. While others follow a more defined path created by those who have come before-like Gardian.(I spelled that name incorrectly)

The spelling for Magick was changed to reflect that there's a difference between what we do and what some dime store cowboy on a stage with mirrors and smoke is doing. Casting a spell is like putting positive energy into the universe and being equally positive about the change it will bring to your life. Remember that the Bible says "Cast your bread upon the water and it will come back to you threefold"? Exactly the same principle. Positive energy sends out ripples that eventually bring back all that good to you while negative energy will do the same much to your detriment.
As for the paths question, I answered it before in this manner: If you think of Christianity as a tree trunk then the many branches (or paths to follow) on this tree will Baptist, Lutheran, Catholic, Methodist, etc, etc, etc,..... For Pagans the branches will be Wicca, Druidism, Shamanism, etc, etc, etc,....
