GREAT books!!!! Joseph Campbell is my hero as well. If you've read Nag Hammadi and the Gnostic Gospels have you read the Gospel of Mary? That was particularly fascinating to me because of course we know that the Bible was written by men so it's enlightening to see the blatant sexism when you compare accounts in the Bible to the accounts in the Gospel of Mary.
Oh, and I adored Lucy's Child.

All right, I've just put library holds on "The Gospel of Mary Magdalene" and "Lucy's Child the Discovery of a Human Ancestor" at our library. Are those the books you're talking about?

Thanks for the recommendations, btw. And I too love the Moyer's interviews with Joseph Campbell. Though, when I first watched them I didn't understand them, for I was still entrenched in fundamentalist christianity.

What beautiful lyrics, debiraymond

Dense as a fruit cake, and just as nutty. But we like you anyway.

Handy tip: if the joint looks like I'd have a frequent shopper's punchcard, you've found it.

One of the Christian conceps that i can not grasp is the concept of babies being born "sinful", for goodness sakes, they just got here, how can they already be in trouble? I have known people with damaged souls, but none of them are damaged by being born a human, but rather the damages was done later, often by other humans to them. (disclaimer I work with foster kids and taught in high risk classrooms for a few years, very young children who saw things like thier daddy stab thier mommy). I have made an aware choice to send love and kindness to the other people I share this planet with, rather than to fear and loathe. Is it easy? nope, but it's what I feel my purpose in being here is.

At least for us, we don't recruit, convert or otherwise "seek" new members, they come to us, and our job is to let them learn what they can, when they can. Currently I'm mentoring a young lady who is starting where I was 10 years ago. It's my job to guide her when she has questions, and ask her questions that make her think.

That is a long and complicated explanation. It rests with Eve and periods are because of her too. I have words for that woman when I get there.

Yes dear, I do know the explinations, I was raised in the church, I just don't feel a truth in them.

I wholely agree. It seems to me, everyone's true self is innocent and connected with everyone and everything - no matter what has happened to them, no matter what they have done. The "shell" we all eventually learn to wear, is our ego - which is the continuous & habitual thinking of myself as a separate entity from all else. We learn, at an early age, to ensnare ourselves in that separation thinking: mine & yours, right & wrong, past & future, etc. That separation is THE damage, THE soul's scar. It's interesting, in a way, because christianity pronounces that separation as the soul's separation from God. I'd submit that we were born divine and we remain divine, but we were taught to think our self separate from our true and divine Self. Hence, the ego and it's fears and suffering.

Just some thoughts from someone who is atheist. LOL.

I read the post 40 times. Stunning! Beautiful! Well said Feathersnuggles!

For me the above paragraph is a substantial truth. Part of the foundation of the path to enlightenment.

It reads like a paragraph out of my favorite book.. (The one that does not have written words, that exists within .......)
