I agree - that's how I've always interpreted the similar things I've had of my dad and grandfather.

Take it from someone who knows. Sometimes in your sleep your mind becomes more accepting of things that you normally couldn't handle. At those times, it's as if a door or window opens and things are able to 'come through'. I believe that in those dreams that we have, the people we love are really there. Not as a dream, but they are really with you, and as you thought, are reassuring you that things are ok and that they are with you, not gone forever.

It fits perfectly, too. Skepticism is almost a religion for biologists, and while there are things about the world that I suspect or want to believe, deep down I'm scoffing and going, "where's the data?"
It's nice to have a reminder from time to time that shakes things up

Did your grandfather die before or after your father? Did your grandmother have her dream before your grandfather passed?

Dad died Sept 11th, 2008. Grandad died Sept 15th, 2008.
Yeesh, that's been a fair bit more than a year ago. I lost some time somewhere.

They died from totally unrelated stuff, it was just a crap coincedence.

Grandmom's dream was fairly recently, in the last month or two. The really weird continuity was the bit about the mysterious smile and the not speaking. Also, she's a hardcore Southern Baptist, and doesn't really believe in this sort of thing, but she was so impacted by the dream that she felt the need to mention it. We're very close, but it's the first time I recall her saying something in the "oooga booga" realm.

Side note, getting into poultry was part of my regain-my-sanity project, and it worked. There is a great deal of healing to be found in little fuzzy things and their happy, alive energy

My grandmother's mother was a midwife and herbalists. Apparently she was very good at what her craft because all her children reached adulthood before the advent of antibiotics. That is pretty impressive.

My daughter and I were wondering if everything that got labeled a ghost was really a ghost. Sometimes I hear stories about how certain houses-or even areas- might have a ghost but I wonder if there aren't different kinds of spirits?

This is of course just a wacky, untestable hypothesis, but I kind of suspect that there are different kinds of paranormal things too, deb1. While I think there might be actual spirits out there sometimes, I also kind of suspect that a lot of "ghost encounters" are just residual energy left behind from something intense.
Ever walk in a room or gathering and the mood is so intense (good or bad) that you can almost smell it? Makes sense to me that something involving very strong emotions or sensations could leave behind some energy.

Coyotemagic, you're definitely right about backcountry christian women, but Grandmom isn't one.
She's not that way at all! My soon to be in-laws, on the other hand, are fascinating when it comes to that kind of thing. They're all hardcore Christians, but then they'll casually drop some very occulty commnent. What can I say, they're gals from back in the swamps of south Louisiana

Most of the time I just think they're sweet loons, but sometimes they are so right on the money about something it gives me chills. They're in tune with *something*, that much is for sure.

I feel your hypothesis is correct. At least for me "energy bursts" leave residual effect. ( A stone falling in a pond.) It seems that ever thing physical in this universe has cause and effect. Why not in the "spirit relm"? Sometimes in a place where some one died. I do not nesesarly get the sense that they are present, just a sense of the passing or the event.

What is almost smelling the mood of a room like? I have tasted it when the mood of a room is real bad. Sort of metallic....


I have lived rural most of my life. I just love the diversity of folks living with out the bonds of social norms.....Many can be very in tune with things! OR down right crazy! Many will only come out of the woods a few times a year. You can catch them at the grocery store, re-stocking supplies. Mighty interesting characters indeed!

(Good thing I have a spouse and kids to get me out and keep me "grounded".......)
