Actually Coyote.. Speaking in tongues is one the that I searched inside myself for an answer to while I was going to the church.. I actually have spoken in tongues during a very powerful service, I was amazed at the sense of relief and clarity that it had brought me. I came to the conclusion that uttering in tongues is a way of speaking from your soul.. It was very strange to listen to others speaking in tongues at the church as they would each have a different accent when doing so .. sometimes it did sound like jibberish but alot of times I was able to pick out actual languages, I have heard and 80 yr old man speak in what was very close to ZUlu, a 5 yr old girl speaking in russain etc... My own theory on tongues is that you release physical control of your speech to Spirit and speak purely to the Higher power.,. Its very hard to describe especailly as a Pagan, but I promise you that it defintly has some thruth to it... I have also wondered if possibly when speaking in tongues we are actually speaking in Prime as Prime is where all language originated...

Random thoughts apropo nothing. All of the parts f the universe from the tiniest quark to the galaxies themselves are in motion. The planet spins and swirls through space at mind bending speeds. Every molecule in my body and in all of the objects around me swirls and whirls and dances with energy and movement. If I weren't connected to it I would blow apart at the very speed! I can fight that all of my life trying to be more evolved and rational or I can find a flow with it that brings me peace and a sense of connection.

Some times I feel disconnected. Usually I can get reconnected by slowing down and tuning in. Go with the flow.

Coopcrazy, I believe that you had a genuine moment because I have had similar experiences. I have had very powerful, deep experiences when praying the rosary.

Somewhere I read that the Buddhist and Catholic mystics both have similar experiences.

When my friends tell me that they feel the Holy Spirit at their Baptist Churches, I believe them. If someone told me that they had a mystical experience while meditating or walking in the forest, I believe them also.

I had witnessed speaking in Tongues before but never like this. I used to be a member of "The Way" which many folks describe as a cult. It was very enlightening in many different ways. I had learned to speak in tongues after a very spiritual session. Scared the crap out of me because I had walked a dark road at one time and the voices I was hearing was very similar to what I had heard before.

In 1st Corithians 12-14 it talks of speaking in tongues as being a manifestation of the Holy Spirit (one of 9). But it also says that if someone speaks in tongues someone else is to interpret what is being said. I believe it also states that all these folks speaking in tongues at the same time isn't the way it's suppose to be done.

You can see why somone would be confused when sitting in one church they tell you to do this and in another they tell you to do that.

Oh I can totally see where you are coming from .. I got a ili long winded for a moment there.. Sorry... My first few times I was thinking , What the heck is wrong with these people .. I dont beleive in the bible myself so for me it was more a spiritual release then anything...

It does seem that mystical experiences are felt across religions. The good thing about not putting a label on them is that you can accept and be happy for someone from another religion who felt that they connected into something.

At one point in my life, I thought that anyone who didn't go to my church could not be experiencing real events. What happened in my church was true and real, something to be joyful about; what happened in another church or religion was a sign that the person was nuts.

That is such an illogical way of thinking that it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

It is nice to be able to accept everyone's experience as valid.

I feel this way at times. Wrote a poem back one time when I thought my head would pop!

Cosmos
Whirling, swirling cosmos,
What wonders do you hold?
For those of that seek,
What answers will unfold?

Planets and stars fill your sky
Formed when time began
All brought into being
With the Creators hand.

What mysteries do you possess?
Will I ever know.
It is your wisdom that I seek,
On this path I wander so.

I find it interesting that it is all the same basic pattern. Just objects with different mass's. I have the feeling the universe it self may just be a quark size object in something even larger.. These patterns may reproduce infinitely in size in both directions (small and large.) Contemplating these things is interesting to me.
