On the video you can see that the first chicks from this spring are already grown to very nice juvenile green peafowl. It is a pleasure and a gift to have the chance to observe them every day during their development from chick to such nice Greens.

The gorgeousness is coming back. Apollo was starting late with his moulting, but he his train is growing back very fast. At the moment he has the longest train of all our males. The feathers on the wing covers are mainly changed. But there are still many feathers on the back plate and the neck, which have to be changed.

When we are looking on peafowls we are always admire the gorgeousness of the males. But when you will look on this back (young green peafowl hen 2.5 years) you have to confirm me, the hens are having at min. the same gorgeousness. When I made the pictures we had complete cloudy conditions.

A gorgeous golden neck and long back feathers (are not complete finished in length) which are completely covering the tail feathers.
Both pictures are from the same hen and you can see how much the colour of the back feathers are changing with the angle.

One of my favorite things about green peafowl is how beautiful the hens are. Your green peahens are stunning!

I also enjoy how quickly the young green peafowl get their color. A green peachick not even half a year old is already far more colorful than an India blue peacock the same age.

Autumn impressions

At this part of the year, the hens are nearly finished with the moulting and having now back their full glory of colour and brilliance.

The males are having nearly finished the moulting of the wing cover, but until they are finished with the moulting it will takes approx. another 2 month. Until the train feather will have their full length it will take another 3 months.

Beautiful photos as always! I am sure on those dark winter days seeing their bright color is a nice change of scenery.

Is that a new tree in their aviary? That is beautiful as well.

It is a green Japanese maple which I planted in spring 2012. All people told me that I will have no chance to bring him up, the peafowl will destroy him. I have protected him with wire mash and now he is out of the dangerous zone and will start to spend shadow in the summer.

I made the pictures and didn’t realize this nice contrast to all the green when I made the picture. I saw it when I watched the pictures on the PC. I always go out and have some ideas what and how I would take the pictures but very often my peafowl don’t act how they should and sometimes the results are such Pictures.

I love to see my birds all the year, the most of them are my friends and for two I’m a concurrent which makes it a little bit difficult. But then I see this beautiful young hen from this year, which is a daughter from one of these two fighters and I know why I have them.
With her long legs she is already higher then most of the adult females which I have.
