Mine are eating their crests all the time

When i got mine home they would eat every feather on the brooder floor they could fine, it drove me nuts trying to keep them dirty old feathers picked up, i upped their protein to 20% flock raiser and added scrambled eggs and keep a pecking treat in their 24 /7 and no more father eating, i have never had an issue here with birds eating others feathers or crest but when i see spindly cres and no new one erupting i check when they were wormed last as i believe worms effect feather growth of peas and the crest
would be the first place you would see such a thing as they stick out.

Mine usually don't eat feathers, but these green chicks are a bit crazy they want to jump and play all the time, and my main problem is their brooders are small for them, so they can't jump and play as they want, if they have something else to do they will eat each other crests. Here we had to keep all our peachicks inside until September at least, before that they will not survive the heat outside. Once they are out in the big pens they will stop eating other crests, its happened last year.

I know eating feathers is a sign of not having the best nutrition, but i'm afraid to give them feed with more protein, because last year the spalding chicks were the fastest to get twisted tibia.

On my wish list
Really, have you ever raised the Muticus Muticus? if so when do they start to get their crest? one of mine has to be at least 6 weeks old now and i can finely see it's wee little crest, some of the others had theirs when i got them but barely could see them, they are really starting to grow now, i love watching the changes of these greens.

Between the different sub-species of green peafowl is no difference in crest growing. With two weeks you can already see crest a little bit. Sometime one chick is a little bit later, but then I expect the problem was that another one has picked it off once when they were playing.

The summer is over and we are going with big steps into the autumn. All peafowls are moulting and getting back again step for step the colour and the brightness. The chicks are already grown to respectable sizes.

Here are some pictures of a gorgeous nice young hen, who will go two weeks on the way to her new home. The hen is just 5 month old and already beautiful coloured and bright. A dream for every Enthusiast.

This hen is the first offspring I had 2.5 years ago from the imported green peafowl. On the wing covers she moulted already all feathers and appears now in her full brightness.

The pictures of the wing covers are made from different angles to show what an extraordinary brightness this hen has. The first four pictures are made in the sun, on the last four pictures she is in the shadow, but this is not reducing her brightness. With this emerald green colour she could be a Java hen.

And now a short video of the hen on which the smaragd green brightness can be seen a little bit better. It is always very difficult to show this with pictures and videos. It work only partly to show what the eyes are seeing, but I thing on this video it can be seen very well.

Here again a video with our green peafowl offspring 2015 during their daily free run. This is the younger group of birds. The video was made beginning of July.

Here an additional video with our green peafowl offspring 2015 during their daily free run. This is the older group of birds. The video was made beginning of July.

The first animals from this group are now already at their new owner, who is very pleased about the lively but trustworthy animals.

The Indian summer brings the colour of the bird back and the first chicks from this year are now grown to beautiful young birds.
