Agree! We bought a Hedgehog from a pet store for $100 and it only lived a few months. Apparently inbreeding is a big problem with hedgehogs. So I researched and found good breeders, but they cost three to five hundred dollars! We loved ours and he was a great pet, but no thanks.

Lol. Ok. I picked 3 because it seemed darker.. kinda blurry.. alot hatchery barred rock have dark down the front of there legs..
I see no reason to discount the craigslist post though.. they look a little slender.. but likely the poster really did buy them as barred rocks. And selling them as such..
True barred rocks have yellow legs.. but I have no clue which hatchery you can buy those from.. from what ive seen hatchery barred rocks are messed up..likely have to find a breeder..

The poster is selling them as marans though, albeit spelled incorrectly. Some other people in here have said that are barred rocks and not marans. The point ralphie was making is that it can be hard to tell just by leg color, which is how the other person was saying they knew they were barred rocks and not marans which they are being sold as.

I agree they can vary greatly. I thought the bodies looked lankier than the barred rocks I have had. I only have one right now.

Which is why I would not argue they are or are not Maran's. Show me an egg then I will know...LOL

I had cuckoos, their eggs weren't any darker than my barred rocks eggs, neither were hatchery birds, from an unreputable breeder maybe but not hatchery.
