Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Hey, Lady... wanna buy a pig?

Those look like professional pictures.  I would bet they copied them from somewhere and are not the chickens they are selling.  And those prices are for straight run chicks?

Yeah, I was thinking the same about the pics too... and I think that's all straight run... but they all have F's by them... :idunno

False. Prior to the 1970s, all blue/green layers were called Araucana. Once the Araucana breed gained recognition, only those that are rumpless, yellow skinned, and tufted qualify for the name Araucana. The Ameraucana also gained APA recognition in the 1970s, and only those that are tailed, muffed, white skinned, and conform to specific standards for coloring can be called Ameraucana.
That left a large portion of what used to be Araucana that didn't meet either breed standard. Those birds are what are commonly known as Easter Eggers now.

Lol see? They got YOU too! Lol I(they) didn't write AmerAcauna, I(they) wrote AmerIcauna...there's a difference I guess. I learned that last year when I went to my local tractorcsupply-ish store and they had "AmerIcaunas", I was all excited for some super rare breed that laid blue eggs... Evidently they were just EEs with a fancy name with one letter switched to confuse the masses :D

The misspelling is just that, a misspelling; it's not a deliberate attempt at anything. Most of the people selling Americaunas/Ameracaunas/Ameraucanas/EE's don't know what they have, let alone how to spell it. And if the birds came from a hatchery, well, even some very old and well recognized breeds are waaaay off the standard in a lot of hatchery flocks.

Oh, see, I was going to go buy a $5 Araucana, not an EE, they are advertising both, but showing a pic of an EE.. I have EEs already, but hey, if I can get an AURACANA for five bucks then its a steal! :D

Ah, the importance of spelling correctly eh? ;)

Nah, still looks like a plain old EE :p

Whoa!!

At first, $10 a chick doesn't sound so bad.... But they get pricier as it goes on...

I live in CO and have seen these ads for the past few months. Initially was excited someone local was selling so many neat breeds. But I think those are pics pulled from somewhere else, and the variety seems suspect. Let me know if you look into this further!
