Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Are you talking about the 2nd pic..... the "rare ameraucana" with feathered shanks & single comb? LOL
:lau

I googled "splash marans" & the image came up all over pinterest. I'm guessing the other images will be found other places online as well. I really dislike when people sell things & use other people's photos.

It's sad about a tragic life situation but there are bigger things to do than sell eggs.

Geez, that's so sad. How many people are going to get taken by the unscrupulous likes of them.

Who knows if their eggs would hatch or not, but I believe people should use photos of the actual item(s) they're selling. Of course posting a pic of a completely different color pattern and the wrong breed of chicken does make me think they don't know what they're doing.

Right now I'm selling orp chicks, so I get the fun of dealing with all the silly questions. On the bright side, I'm glad they're asking all the questions BEFORE buying an animal. It just takes a lot of time. I had a couple spend 90 min here picking out 2 straight run chicks (because they really liked the adorable babies more than the 4 wk old pullets). This was after the 1st shorter visit when the woman came just to "see" the chicks and wanted to return with her boyfriend to actually pick some out. After a week of emails back & forth, 2 visits, instructions on DIY feeders/waterers, and waiting while she texted chick photos to her vet friend who she claimed could sex day-old chicks, the couple finally put 2 in a box. They kept calling the 2 chicks "girls." I reminded them that the chicks could be either sex & although their friend thought female, I could not guarantee gender. (Hence "straight run") I didn't want them getting angry with me if they picked out 1 or both boys. They said they simply couldn't get attached to a rooster & have to give him up. They decided to go to a feed store so they could buy sexed chicks.

Last year I actually had a man ask if he could just let chicks loose in his fenced in yard and he had no idea chickens needed a coop. Not to mention I was selling day old chicks who would be eaten up in minutes. Sadly, I also get about 1 call a year from someone who got "free chicks" & one died. They were looking for a replacement/buddy for their remaining living chick(s). Usually sometime during the phone conversation I learn that they had run out of starter chick feed so they started giving ----- (corn, bread, tortillas, etc.) Instead of a chick, I usually give them addresses of feed stores.

Thankfully most people I meet are responsible, do their research 1st, and have a coop ready. I've actually made several friends via selling chicks. However, those others are very memorable.

Sounds like years ago when I was selling puppies. I learned NOT to offer choices. If I did the couple would argue back and forth over which to take forever. I would offer one pup at a time and describe it (gender, color, etc.) take it or leave it?

Oh yes and all the no shows. Trim and bathe the puppy and they wouldn't show up. One family did it 3 times - I finally told her not to bother coming. She cussed me out until I set the phone down and walked away.

Oh wow that's ridiculous!! Getting mad at YOU cause they didn't show to get their puppy!? I could see maybe if it was like a family emergency or something one time but three times is intentional/no accident and you clearly don't want the puppy. Also even with an emergency, they should at least call and say hey I can't make it today instead of just not showing up. Of course, you probably still would turn them down after 3 times (I would too) but at least they would've tried.

Also it's probably better that you told them not to come because if they are that irresponsible and inconsiderate, they probably couldn't or wouldn't take care of a puppy anyway.

What breed did you raise?

I guess it doesn't hurt to ask if anyone wants to remove it.... but boy is that a lot of work for a "free chicken house."

That’s cool KDOGG. You gonna buy it?

I thought of this thread when I saw a post on FB for a “porcelain millie flour d’uncle”
:p

Maybe if I had $400 lying around. :p

But also not practical cause I'm in MA but I didn't find many stock tanks here and my mom has family in Erie so I figured I'd expand the search lol
