Oh Craigslist, You Amuse Me So!

Just for kicks, I did a search on the WY CL site for buffalo. I can find buffalo skulls, buffalo nickles and a tanned buffalo hide. No meat darn it.
try bison, they are actually american bison and the breeders get wicked mad if you call them buffalo

I see possibilities... ;)

I thought buffalo/bison were endangered?  Is that just in the wild, or have they rebuilt their numbers now?

I think that might just be in the wild but I'm not sure. But I do know that bison farma are fairly popular now. People raise them for meat. Another popular thing is beefalo - a cross between a buffalo and a cow. Supposed to be great meat. I think the numbers in the wild are increasing too though but I'm not sure about that

They aren't really endangered, but the ranchers out here do not want them wild here, at all. They not only don't respect fences, they walk through them like they don't exist unless you use electricity or paneling or some such expensive fencing. Plus, there is the brucellosis factor in Yellowstone park... Don't get me started on that. Makes me so mad! Plenty of ranches of them though, I know two families that raise them personally. One uses a Humvee to check on them so they are big enough not to get eyeballed by the bison. You should see the corral they had to construct to hold them for checking!

If we want to be technical... WILD bison are pretty much extinct here in the US. Most herds are controlled or fenced in somehow. But here in CO we have some free range area that the state has set aside for them. It's mostly ranchers that own herds, though.

I think I saw a documentary on them in Canada, though... Trying to rebuild numbers but they're still threatened. Hard to bring them back after almost wiping them out :(

It's actually really cool to see them in a pasture moseying around, but yeah, they're not the nicest animal to have; I would be scared to work them for sure ha-ha ;)
