I guess it just comes from us having a rare breed, huh? At least, we have an explanation (thank you, Christina!) now. So far, all the chicks I've hatched here have proper leg color, but now that my paranoia has set in, I'll be looking at chicks legs very closely from here on out.

ROFL. I leave for an hour and you two start spazzing. LOL. I actually love the leg coloration on him, even if it doesnt fit the standard.

I actually am interesting in beginning to seriously breed, so if he throws chicks with bad leg coloration I will just put him with our general flock and breed my other birds until I get another splash roo. I am aware that it will take me some years to get my flock just right, but I am up to the challenge.

And actually in my ignorance and having never seen a splash in person, I thought that the green legs might be normal, LOL. Ahhh yes, you two will be recieving many calls for help and advice during this learning curve!

Oh and Cyn, I have no worries about this. I don't think I could be more pleased with him actually. I cant even tell you how many times I daydreamed through those long weeks about getting a splash roo. I think I can honestly say that he is one of the BEST birthday presents I have EVER recieved!

OMGosh there is a leaf leaning up on the fence in that pic and for a second it looked for all the world like a chicken leg! I was like "OMGosh there is a dismembered chicken over there somewhere!

" LOL. He is beautiful.

Just wondering about the comment on his beak, what color is it supposed to be? Looking at it now in comparison to the beak on the splash in that pic I am not able to really see the difference, though I could be wrong. They both look yellow with a dark spot...

My goodness I was just looking at and comparing the legs on that splash and Zane. The splash's are almost the same size if not bigger around than the adult rooster!!

And he is round as a kickball. LOL.

A question about orpington roos: Do they tend to be upright like other roosters I have seen? I have only seen a few pics of orp roosters, most of them Suede, and I dont think I have ever seen a pic of one standing upright. And I know that I have never seen my little boy do that. So I thought maybe a breed thing??? Just another silly newb thing I guess, LOL.
