OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Where did you get the d'uccle from shay? How old are they?

From Brian. :D I think they hatched around July 1, so roughly 3 months.

Easiest way to figure it out is by breeding it. If you get non NN chicks, then you know it only carries one gene for NN.

I'm still new to the showgirls myself. I know to start a line you cross NN and silkie, then continue to breed back to silkie to perfect the type (floof!). I had planned to start with quality established showgirls to avoid the early generations beginning the process. I am a bit more familiar with NNs than showgirls. (Should be..I have oodles of them!) A decent way to tell if a NN carries one or two NN genes (or rather, how "pure" they are) is that those carrying two have a small or non-existent bow-tie. I would imagine it's the same for showgirls. Those carrying one would have a larger, fuller bow-tie. A chick hatched fully feathered (no NN) has completely lost the NN gene and doesn't carry it at all. I'm so tired, let me read over that and make sure I got it right..lol.

These were my 4 keepers from the OE/EE chicks. I'm thinking 3 are boys. Hoping your 6 turned out more girls than mine! At least I'll have something to remember Doug(the sick EE roo) by if I lose him.

I might want them. What are you asking for them both and can you do better pictures?

DH would kill me, but I don't want to make a profit on them, just not see them as doggy chew toys, so say around 5 bucks together. I meant to get pics today and completely forgot. D'oh! I'll get some in the morning. :)

Those 4 are beautiful! So sad about the roo. Hope he pulls through. Mine are looking like half and half so far, but I'm iffy on two. Could be 5 boys, 1 girl. lol. We shall see!

I'll keep an eye out tomorrow for pics. If they aren't red by now I doubt there is a roo. My porcelain d'uccle was very obvious at 7 weeks. I was almost positive with him at 4 weeks but I waited a little longer to make sure. Figured they can go in with my porcelain and be used in that breeding.

Hello, Ohio! I live in Florida right now. My husband is considering a job near Dayton (Englewood I think it is). Can you tell me a bit about the area? And where would be good to look for decent price homes with enough land to do gardening and have chickens?

Here are somewhat better pics of the d'uccles, although the lighting wasn't great at dawn.

This one is slightly lighter in color and I'm pretty positive it's a pullet.

This one is only slightly darker right now. It's the extra skittish one. It sure looks like a pullet to me (the porcelain cockerel I had before had a huge red comb by 4 weeks). When I was taking the pics, I thought it was starting to sing a sun salutation (pathetic crow) but in hindsight, I think it was just trying to scare me off lol.

I think its 3 and 3 or possibly 2 pullets and 4 cockerals. The darker ones that I have I believe are both cockerals. The others are white. I'm going to try to get some pics up of them this weekend.
