To you's who raise showgirls, what do you breed together to get them? I know nn's and silkie, but do you always use a nn? You all that have this gene-breeding thing down I

It just kinda goes over my head!! I guess if I learned it, it wouldn't be, but it seems complicated to me. If I get a showgirl, I would like to raise some, so I will need some guidance when that time comes! So be prepared for lots of questions!!

They did breed nn in to get them. When you bred then you want to breed them back to more showgirls our breed them to silkies. You really don't want to add more nn back in because it will throw off type, skin color, comb, etc.

Ok, so if I use a showgirl hen, and silkie roo, i will get half and half? Or can you know what will hatch?

If the showgirl only Carries one gene (heterozygous) for the NN, then you should get 50/50. If the bird is carrying 2 genes (homozygous) for NN than you would get 100% showgirls that are heterozygous(only carry one gene) for NN.

How do you know what gene it carries?

Easiest way to figure it out is by breeding it. If you get non NN chicks, then you know it only carries one gene for NN.
