OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Anybody have any nice buff orps on this thread? I have a friend that is looking for some for her own use. They don't have to be show quality for breeding or anything but prefer a good size.

Two of my SPPR are probably due to slow down but the other two should be in their prime. Our RIRs are dependable layers and I'm not sure what age our Speckled Sussex are as I got them at an auction. Two have a good amount of white on them so have probably gone through two molts but the other two are definitely younger. We (stupidly) bought show chickens in hopes my son would want to show but that remains to be seen. That being said, we were getting 5-6 daily out of the 10 before the Winter slow down.

I have a friend whose father loves chickens and will take my older girls as pets and spoil them for the rest of their lives so I won't feel bad about sending them on but I don't want to before their time either. Frustrating.

We did up the protein content in their food thinking that might help (they're getting roughly 18% now) but nothing has changed.

Suggestions?

Our coop is almost done! Tomorrow I should be able to add COMPLETED pictures(well, sans the nest boxes)!
!
Love it! I'm about ready to get Hubs out of bed to show him it can be done! LOL Seriously tho, it looks great. Can't wait to see finished pictures. What are the dimensions? Looks about the size I want for our main coop. Thanks!

If you're not happy with the production, make soup/stock and get new stock.

I'm in Lewisburg, north and west of Dayton and have 2 LF barred cochin roosters that need to go, I want to get some marans, for a colorful egg basket I have about a dozen americanas now and love the blue and green eggs, and I have some LF barred cochin hens, I'm keeping one rooster for my daughter to show in 4H but the other 2 need to go. They aren't agressive at all, my silkie rooster actually runs them around. I got them from Ideal last Oct. I'd take $10 each for them.

Curious how everyone's hens are laying now that we are getting more daylight. Mine are seriously dragging their tail feathers. 0-2 daily from 10 hens and one of those is always a RIR egg and we only have 2 of them. Is it time for the Happy Hen Retirement Home or should I still be waiting it out?
I've got 5 hens that are of laying age and they have been laying 4 eggs a day for the last month or so. Most days I get 5 eggs but somedays I have one or the other that doesn't lay for some reason, it's not always the same one.

Adding: I feed only straight grain (BOSS/wheat/oats/corn) and sprouted seeds/fodder (I also sprout lentils) along with kitchen goodies/worms/mealworms/beatles. On Friday nights I give each coop a cup or so of laying mash and they think it is a PAR-TEY!

Yesterday I had my blue copper marans free ranging with his Jersey girls and they saw me in the cuckoo marans coop feeding them worms I dug out of the compost pile...I had to dump the rest out for them just so I could come out of the coop without being attacked! LOL
