lol i assumed you knew i had chickens.i have five barred rock hens and a ee rooster

.they are the newest animals on the farm though..there quickly becoming my fave.i have sat outside and watched them for hours sometimes....they do some funny things

i can remember the day when i knew how many chickens i had. i quit counting a while back, its to hard to keep track of what hatches and grows out, and what is culled, or doesn't make it.

Brian, whats your thought on toe punches? I'm needing a reliable way to mark chocolate splits from my pure blacks. These zip ties and leg bands aren't cutting it

i do not have a toe punch, but probably about 3 times a week i threaten to get one

. i try to keep different breeds that are colored similar in different coops, to help keep them straight until they get old enough to put a permanent band on. i still catch myself using a lot of zip ties.

i dont see any issues with toe punches though. judges ignore them when they see the mark, its a good solution to your problem.

Seemed like a good solution cause I've got choc AM's hatching Friday and there will be some splits. Plus I have 3pure black eggs in there and I know if I zip tie within the week I will have them losing the zip ties. Someone is going to give me one tomorrow they have as an extra. Thought it was a good way to permanently mark them so I'm not guessing in the future. Thanks.

i need to get one, i keep getting buff cochins and lemon cuckoo cochins mixed up. and my wife sold 20 basque as buff orpingtons, when the people realized what they had gotten, no amount would buy them back.
