I am located in Clermont county, south west Ohio just North and East of Cincy. My April chicks have grown and honestly, I have no idea what they are. They have names, they're a quiet happy flock. I'm incubating some silkies and some americaunas right now to add to the count. I ordered some polish top hats to incubate, too. Here's some pictures of my brooding pen and my grown April chicks. If you know what breeds they are, I'd appreciate the input. I'm thinking the two white chickens might be brahmas? Roosters? And the reddish brown pair might be a hen and rooster and orphingtons? The multi color brown, gold and black hen, and the black and white are a mystery. Any help is appreciated.

Brahmas should have small pea combs those have single combs. Do they have feathers on their feet ?

The brown one looks like a golden comet, the one with muffs / puffy face is an easter egger. Maybe the white ones with black are columbian rocks. Not sure what comb columbies should have.

i looked at the Easter hatch chicks on your page. Looks like golden comet, easter egger (one with muffs and one without), maybe a Delaware.

I have to vent, so WARNING. VENTING ABOUT TO BEGIN.

So my dad had knee surgery Monday. I've been working, taking care of the animals, and going to be with him in the hospital since. The neighbor has no obvious understanding of privacy. I come home today and find a note in my door. It was wrote on a piece of my mail! So he'd been in my mailbox. He's out of work and he comes down here all the time. It's gotten bad enough we hide and leave the lights turned out even though we're home so we don't have to deal with him. The note says to call him. I called, he asked me for money and swears he'd pay me back. I refuse to give him money. He then tells me he doesn't have anything to do this weekend and he wants us to pay him to come do farm work. I told him we don't typically party other people to do work on our property and we can't really afford to. He still insists that we must have something we could pay him for. I guess saying i have bills to pay means nothing. Then he proceeds to tell me he felt the need to feed my chickens and ducks cause they were making lots of noise! The always make noise when they see a human cause they want attention! I told him never to feed any animal on the farm unless he is asked to (I would never ask). I have a friend who feeds for me if for some reason I can't get home to or we go on vacation. I have some older chicks that I had on antibiotic feed cause they were attacked by something and this was to help the wounds heal. I don't know what trashcan he fed out of and he changed his story 3 times when I asked which one! He goes oh, I'm sorry, I'll never do that again. I asked him why did you in the first place? He claims, well I've been down here at least 5 times over the last 2 days and you weren't home. I explained to him where I've been and why I've been home so little and that the animals were being fed 2X's a day this entire time.

So now i get to throw my eggs out for 3 weeks cause I don't know what he fed them. Then to top it off something killed 3 call ducks (2 snowy hens and a black bibbed drake) and a guinea. So now I've got a game cam up so I can tell what I'm dealing with. It got them inside the coop so whatever it is, it climbed a 6 foot fence.

I need your expertise. What would kill only call ducks. Pulled the head and neck off. Killed multiple in one night. Between 1230am and 530am. Left some of the bodies but not all. Very few feathers around so it doesn't look like they struggled. I swear i thought i saw a large bird fly off the top of the garage at 545 am but not sure. The two bodies i found weren't real stiff yet either so i think it just happened right before i got up.

Those poor call ducks! Did you check the whole fence? Could there be a spot in the fence you might not be able to see really well that something could slip in? Any fur or tracks near the pen? Hopefully whatever it is you will catch it on camera.

Oh man owls are horrible flying monsters. Is there any way you can put a net at the top of the pen? I know the talons on them are like razor blades but it might help keep them out.

I'm going to try poultry netting and white flagging tape It's what ODNR suggested. I've also ordered those night guard predator lights. If he breaks through the netting and the lights don't stop him, I can obtain a permit to kill him.
