OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

New Chicken person here---   an hour South West of Cleveland, Ohio...
nobody would know my little town...it is close to
Ashland, Medina and Mansfield.......depending on how you travel..  ;)

Hello fellow Ohio chicken obsessed people...
I have my first ever chicks, svart hona...ebony beauties of the chicken world...love them...

I look forward to learning a ton from those in the know.
Have a good weekend.

Shannon

Welcome to Ohio Theead Shannon !!!

Love your rare birds, where did you get your Svart Hona? I'm from North Canton/Uniontown area. What town are you from?

@WVduckchick
I looked it up last night and watched a couple videos on YouTube. I think I'm going to try and grind them down with my dremmel. With the spur having a quick like a toe nail if I keep them short they should stay shorter. I'm hoping that will work cause he's young.

Awesome. Good luck. I hope that solves the issue.
The quick is the part that scares me about cutting or grinding. That's why I went with the twist off. Let us know how it goes for you. Maybe I'll try grinding some.

Hey guys, I'm from North Ridgeville, I have six barred rocks, and like everyone else I love them and spoil them too much. I am currently 15 years old, and I was wondering if anyone around me needs a barn/stable hand. I have always been a 'barn girl' mentally, but due to my location and circumstances I have not been able to find someone easily. I work very passionately in this field and would love to be pointed in the right direction. If anyone has any information, please let me know by either commenting or private messaging! Thank you! And happy chicken-owning!

Wow--you can tell spring is around the corner! Lots of missed conversation since I was last on BYC! I don't get notified anymore when there's new comments even though I have it set up that way...anyways, nice to see all the new members and all the new chick arrivals, or countdowns. I'm trying to not be tempted by chicks this year...again...but may fail ..again.

I still have a Buckeye, 2 Welsummers and a Speckled Sussex alive and kicking from my first year road trip to Meyer Hatchery, plus an EE the same year, 2009 -- and a Lavender Silkie and a Mille Fleur D'Uccle that I've had 7 years. These old ladies will be here till the end--have a soft spot for them...but I really want some babies, as usual! 32 birds total right now so need to be practical...I guess.

Would anyone have need of a beautiful cockerel? I have two, hatched at the end of May 2016--Blue Splash Marans x Bluebell (Leghorn cross hen). They are beautiful, non-aggressive but I already have my rooster quota filled. Plus, if they find new homes then I'd have room for chicks...just sayin' :) If you're interested, I'm northeast of Delaware--just message me !

Here is my work from today. Before and afters of both boys spurs. Big Boy my head rooster is the first set of pictures. Handsome is the second set. Neither one of them had very big spurs to begin with but I'm hoping if I keep them short the quick won't have the chance to grow bigger. They did bleed a little but not bad. It looks worse cause I stuck my finger over the end to stop it and ended up smearing it instead. Fingers crossed this helps the girls out.

Hello fellow Buckeyes! I'm located in Brookfield in Trumbull County right on the OH/PA line. I have 5 Buff Orpington hens that are a year old and just took my first crack (haha) at hatching. So as of right now I have 1 Jubilee Orp chick hatched yesterday morning named Touchdown and at 6:48 this morning 1 Lemon Buff Orp chick named Tee. There is one more Jubilee egg left but no sign of pipping yet. I'm at a cross road as to just leave it alone or check it and if need be give it a little help.

Awesome! Welcome. If the last one make it, you should name it Brady!
