OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hey, I found the Ohioans thread! :D
I'm originally from the Akron/Canton area, lived in the Cleveland suburbs for 23 years before we bought a home on 18 acres in SW Medina county. We're getting chickens this fall - I have an order for August for Cinnamon Queens, Buff Orps, Cuckoo Marans, and Barnevelders. I hope to add a few Easter Eggers later on (already accounting for chicken math!). Fortunately, I'm only about a 40 minute drive from Meyer.
That's so great to hear! Glad you found the thread. With that much property, you can succumb to chicken math with minimal regrets since you have the space! :)

I live in Cleveland. I love that we have such a nice hatchery (Meyer) nearby. I have a Buff Orpington, a Buckeye, an Easter Egger, and a mystery "meal maker" chick on order for next month that I will be picking up. Can't wait!

Good luck with your new flock and we're always here to help if you need anything. :)

I love my Barnie! She came from Meyer almost a year ago with two Salmon Faverolles and a partridge Cochin. I got my five year olds from Meyer too. My five Brahmas came from Mt. Healthy.

I’m down in Pike County, so it’s a looooong drive to Ashland, but so worth it. Plus I can meet my brother for lunch in Mansfield.

Can’t wait to see pics of your chicklets!

I love my Salmon Faverolles from Meyer! I have just one. She is absolutely hilarious. She just started squatting so she'll probably be laying soon, but isn't yet. How do you like your Faverolles from Meyer and how well do they lay?

They’re awesome! My oldster, Butterfly, is my alpha. The other girls outweigh her by a LOT, but she’s a scrapper when she needs to be. The other two, Luci (the strawberry blonde) and Penny (the carbon copy of Butterfly), are almost a year old and have been laying for four or five months. They each lay small cream colored eggs about four times a week, even Miss B!

Luci is in the front, Penny in the back with Shirley and Robbie (she’s a female Barnevelder). Blue, their adoptive momma, is on the roost.

I got all of those from Meyer last year and I love them all, their olive egger is wonderful too. I hope they keep using the same Cuckoo marans line, my hen is awesome. The barnevelder is a little crazy though, I think she would rather be free ranging. She gets grumped at a lot too... that flock combo seems to work pretty well, I haven't had a major problem with any of them hard-core picking on each other but they definitely are snooty to her sometimes.

Wow! They are beautiful! Not just the SFs, all of them. It's funny you say one of your SFs is the alpha. Mine is the lowest of the low in the pecking order. She does not have a dominant bone in her body.

Also, I said in my last message that she hasn't laid her first egg yet, but Starla is proud to announce that she just laid it this afternoon. :)

Does anyone know of anywhere besides the chain stores where I can get some meat birds (Cornish X, Red Ranger, or similar) in NE Ohio? My local TSC doesn't have any and says they won't be getting them. I called Grace Brothers in North Royalton and they have chicks, but said they never get meat birds in. I would love to support the smaller stores, although I will go to a different TSC to get them if I need to.

Do any of you guys sell eggs and what are you charging? We were charging 1.50 per dozen, 1.25 each for two dozen or more. Originally, people were looking at us like they thought that was expensive. Now, people are beginning to ask us for eggs, and they're looking at us like they think that's cheap. Ohio is notoriously cheap, so what d'ya think?
$4.00 a dozen would still be cheaper than the grocery store here.

Hello, I am looking to purchase some adult female ducks for our two lonely male pekin ducks. We purchased them unsexed from TSC and wouldn't you know it, they all turned out to be males. The yard is tense! Let's just say we call them Bert and Ernie. Does anyone know where I could purchase adult female ducks around the Dayton/Columbus Area?
