Good morning Debbie, Thats great news that Sugar is sitting good! My female swan is setting on two eggs in the coop. Her name is Swanita, She is a sweety. The Cob is on the war path with strangers at the moment. His name is Baby cakes or BC for short. He gets all hunkered up when a strangers approach the fence.

Thanks Mark. So what do you do with your Swan babies? I am going to probably sell my ducklings if any hatch as I am at my limit of 14 right now. I got 5 eggs today and am not sure how. I didn't get any from the Mallards, the Rouen Ducks are too old and the Mule doesn't lay. I only have 9 Hens so I should have only gotten 4 unless one laid late yesterday and I got it today. Good luck with your Swan babies. How long do they take to hatch out? Mine are 28 days if not Muscovy related and if they are I will have to finish them out with the incubator because my Momma Duck will not sit long enough to do it.

Hi Debbie, if any happen to hatch, I will pinion them, and DNA sex them then leg band them. That will allow me to make decisions about what I will do with the cygnets. Generally, The eggs around 32-45. I raised the one in my avatar photo from a cygnet, he is 5 years old.

Wow Mark, he is absolutely beautiful!!! How in the world do you DNA sex them? Does the female give you any problems when you take them to pinion them? I want to do my ducklings when they born but I am sure Sugar is not going to be happy by no means.

I don't know about where you are, but the temperature dropped to 46 F I was freezing when I went to feed.

Our Temperature also dropped and is 47 right now but will get down to 32 tonight. I had read that when the eggs get cold they are more prone to be drakes. I had some get cold one hatch and there were 9 drakes and 2 hens out of the batch. I saw on tv not too long ago that turtle eggs are also affected by the temperature. Cold makes male turtles. I don't thing everyone agrees with these facts but I have a tendacy to because of my results.

Thank you! I sent feathers to a lab and it cost about $27.00 if I remember correctly. I think @casportpony knows of a place that is cheaper than that. In the past my wife Susie helped me wrangle them, but she passed away from cancer in November 2022. I can control the with a thing I made out of a pillow attached to a T handle.

So sorry to hear about your wife Mark. Thanks for letting me know about the DNA testing. I always wait until they are old enough to see the difference usually before I rehome mine.
