Not an over-reaction. They are just lucky you calmed down first. If you request YOUR child's information be removed from a website you did not authorize someone to sign her up for, YOUR child's name should be immediately removed.

Here you have to sign releases just to kid your kid's name printed in a directory that only school members can purchase. Any photos or data info is an opt-in, not an opt-out. If you allow your child's information to be shared, then you have to sign a form.

Actually, you would be surprised about the first and last names as well as school records which are online through school district sites and how they can be accessed.

I don't think you over-reacted either. You are to be commended for not allowing the assistant principal to blow you off. I am quite sure that the principal will have a strongly worded conversation with the teacher and probably a reprimand. Violation of confidentiality guidelines and internet usage without parental permission are enough to get her into plenty of hot water. Teachers are not perfect and sometimes use poor judgement. This is not meant to excuse her, especially since predators know exactly where to look.

Was EACH child registered by their own name? Do the other parents know? I would make sure it's on the news. The school can "look into" that.

I think you did what most of us parents would have done i think i might have been even worst then you. I personally dont use facebook nor would i let my kids use it. I feel its personally invasive and it opens up way to much infomation about people to others i really dont need to know your mothers fathers sisters brothers every thought and feeling of the day but facebook allows you to see this not to mention there address etc pretty much everything short of there social security number. There maybe privacy settings but most people dont realize how open they are using such programs and fail to use them.

They definitely should have asked for parents' consent! When I was younger, they'd sign us up for internet learning stuff at school, but never use our real names, just a bunch of numbers and letters. I don't think that's a very responsible thing to do...

I went to the site a few minutes ago and I was able to log on with her username

so they did not take the police officers "warning"

I called the sales line and identified myself and asked for her information to be removed.... I gave her username NOT the password and the member of the sales team said..."Oh she goes to..Sir J A blank blank public school?" (name of the school has been changed) ... so this confirms that the teacher indeed filled out ALL parts of the application...... I was able to get the sales team to remove the information and they confirmed it with an email... I tried to log back in and I was denied... so now I know its been done... but common seriously!!!!
