Ok- toys are cheap, but...

I was just at wally world today complaining about the sudden $ increase on my regular purchases. Seriously, 3.53 for a gallon of milk was ridiculous, I can get it here in town for cheaper at my little hole in the wall grocery (2.67). Let's not even talk about the cheese or the cheap pasta or the dried beans. The only good deal I found was the 10# sack of potatoes for $2, I bought 2 of those. Bill was $30 for what would have normally cost 20 or 22.

I didn't read all the posts here but I'm in the middle on this one.

Milk for example, seems to fluctuate a lot here. I'll go to one store and it will be over $4 a gallon. I'll go to Costco or another store and it's $2, both on the same day.

I'm inclined to believe market value is $4 meaning that is the price the stores would like to get but sometimes, due to oversupply or lack of demand, they drop it to $2 or $3 just to move the stuff. So, in my opinion, there isn't some evil greedy monster saying "it's a holiday week and we can gouge people" but more like "It's a holiday week and we can get our target price". Keep in mind many items, such as milk, are loss leaders. They exist only to get you into the store to buy something they can actually profit on.

If your generator dies tomorrow and you call me to fix it immediately the price is $135 per hour. If you call me next tuesday morning that rate can be as low as $65 per hour.

you mean "roll back" as in over you with their car

sorry PC but I have to side with evil greedy companies. Dont think that there was not a board room meeting (probably hundreds) on just the right way to get us to pay as much as possible for some things while getting great deals on others (at least all other crap made in China that is) there is no decision in a corporation large or small that was not discussed on some level in depth.

I was at B-R-Us a week ago and all these sales were going on, now 2 days before Christmas the sales are all over, guess they know if you waited that long you will pay full price again lol I thouht it would be cheaper today, shows how greedy I was being lol

Skipped yukky Wal-martie yesterday and went to our surplus store. The stuff all tastes the same. However, their cereal prices went up to $2.50 per squashed box. I went and bought a couple of them then got some "cereal not in a box" (plastic bag only) for $1.00 a bag. Went to a regular grocery store also and yep, the milk is up to $3.65 a gallon but I knew that was coming. I bought the 2% for $3.28 and will stretch it with the dry milk. (I know,

I totally agree. Those prices aren't set by some 17 year old with a price gun and a smiley face pin.

Defining "evil and greedy" are the challenge for me. The number one goal of almost any business is to profit. Ethics dictates that the profit be made in a somewhat honest fashion and is also subject to all of our own interpretations. I doubt any of us would care if the Mercedes dealership increased prices by 50% because demand exploded on a particular car. However, when businesses do the same with staples like milk and diapers, many people view it as greed.

You already know I am no fan of Walmart and the cheap Chinese garbage they and others continue to flood our markets with. I'm a fan of free markets but China is not a free market. It's a government controlled environmental nightmare and human rights abomination.

The thing that bothers me most is the number of people (probably with little kids) who had to leave that milk in the walmart fridge because they couldn't afford to buy it.

You see these stores do stuff like this all the time, then they turn around and make a measly donation to the salvation army or something with a big grin on their faces

Average price for a gallon of milk in the US this year was $3.53 so anything less than that is a good deal. Milk is always over $4 here. So did the milk price where you are really go up or did there sale price end?

I have thought about getting a cow. I think I can feed a cow on less than $8 a week.
