***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a question for all the marans breeders. I hatched out some chicks from eggs bought at an auction. On the carton it said they were black coppers and the eggs were a fairly dark color. What I need to know *can black copper chicks be all black? a few have white on the underside, one has white only on the wings and the rest are all black. Now that they are getting feathers the ones with the most white are getting the brown feathers in over the wings. Should I post pics? LOL

If it don't bark, (Cats don't count here) it ain't a dog.

Therefore, Puppys aren't real dogs.

The mothers are careing for the puppys, so they're mothers, and not considered dogs.

Guard dogs are doing a job of protecting your flock, so they're employees and can't be counted as dogs.

Old lazy dogs are considered retired, so not in the dog system.

Tiny dogs are not real dogs because they're to small and considered ankle biters.

and long haired ones are dust mops, so not really dogs either.

I'd better quit now before I get in trouble here.

I love it! That's right! ..... so I have no dogs, I need a dog!

Yes it does call me in 6-8 weeks when we get rid of these pups! I have 5 males and 3 females to pick from, lol.

What breed do you think they are again?

We haven't hatched any ourselves yet but our BCM chicks were all black until they started getting to the age they are now. The pullets are starting to get some gold tips to their feathers. I am thinking if they keep the white tips to the wings those you don't want to use for breeding. I would ask over on the Marans section, they have been helpfull for me. Learning the ins and outs seems almost impossible, lol.

I lost two chicks this week. They were acting tired the day before, but no other symptoms. I am still nursing the one with the upper respiratory thing. Her eyes are swollen shut so I'm feeding her and giving her water with medicine in it. Cleaning her eyes and nose at least three times a day. This little bugger better make it! LOL How long do y'all think these things last and how long will she be contagious? So far none of the other birds are showing the same symptoms, so I think we separated her early enough.

Not real sure, momma looks part lab but not as big as a lab. Who knows about the daddy (or daddys). I will try to take pictures tonight or tomorrow. Have a late night tonight with basketball meetings so it might have to be tomorrow. She has them out in an OLD doghouse our dogs refuse to use, lol. I am going to home them asap and get her fixed and find a good home for her.

On the auction BCM eggs I hatched out a feather legged brown EE. Bought the eggs @ Blanchard sale. Who ever is selling the eggs doesn't keep there hens separated from other Roos IMO. Not thrilled when you consider the price of deep dark BCM eggs.

I THINK some respiratory things they will remain a carrier of for life. But again sometimes my head gets foggy & I may not be remembering correctly.

Okay, I am thinking we need to get a BIG dog, our lab mixes are intimidating, but they don't say "keep out" the way a larger dog would.

My almost three year old is sharing her sour cream and onion pringles with a turkey poult.... think the flavoring will stick?

Is there usually a lot of equipment and supplies at Newcastle or is it mostly livestock?

Newcastle has some equipment, but not near as much "other stuff" as other auctions. Newcastyle starts at 5pm and they go thru the sale pretty fast. Very well run auction.
