***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a mystery. When I cook I almost never measure just "eyeball" it. The one exception to that is nobakes. I always meticulously measure each ingredient, even the time I cook by stopwatch. I use the same exact ingredients, the same exact pan and everything but sometimes they come out as soup, sometimes perfection, and sometimes like tonight it makes one big cookie lump before I can even get it out of the pan.
No bakes do me the same way. I think it has to do with humidity, air pressure, temps....I think no bakes are really sensitive to these things.

x2 humidity and temps seem to play a big role in no bakes just like with souffles and pecan pies. Sigh.

I have my own mystery though. I planted red pontiac potatoes for the first time this year. They grew great, no problems, no bugs, etc. Last week the vines started to die back so we went to harvest them and as we pulled up the plants, the roots were just loaded with potatoes ... and every single one of the potatoes still attached to the roots and thus still growing, had started to sprout. What on earth would have caused that??? It's kind of like the year we went to pick apples and the apple tree was covered in blooms and ripe apples all at the same time. We took pictures because no one would have believed us otherwise.

have spent the morning nursing captain and his lady dora- i went in and dora was down, paralyzed, have been giving her a molasses flush- captain is very weak, droopy- both were covered in fleas- i made the mistake of putting them in the room where the kittens had been - so far dora is no longer clenching her fists, and hopefully will be able to hold her head up- i am thinking there must be something toxic in that spare room to have this happen - i have been working with them all day, dora's head is up and legs are starting to work, Captain is eating again, i need to go get a vet degree...sigh... Dora is only 3, captain is 6-7, i got him as an adult

Thought you guys would appreciate this truth.

Carburetor spray for wasps. wasp and hornet spray too

Recent wet weather after hot dry will spark growth in the potatoes and fruit trees.

Watch out for black widows...we found two in the outside coop. They are really bad this year. Think I lost a healthy pullet to a spider bite in that pen this week. We have killed several bw in the garden.

Babysitter my sweet 3 year old grandson today in Edmond while mom takes brother to the doctor. We have watered their garden and picked squash and cucumbers. Their okra is growing nicely.
Robin...hope you wasps sings are better and Captain and Dora are still improving. Fleas are bloodsuckers!
We should get some nice rain this weekend. vie been watering in the garden since our last rain.
Don't know if all Atwoods are selling their seed at 10 packs for $1 but the store in Shawnee is. All their Lilly Miller,North King, Ferry Morris as well as the American...includes the Heirloom too. Im saving lots of money by stocking up

Our first hive. I will add the other 3 boxes in the spring. I plan on getting several hives! :)
I want to raise bees I love the fresh honey and it's supposed to good for allergies if the honey is local to where you live and not cooked, and then there is the bee sting thing that's supposed to help with arthritis and wasp stings just don't do it for me anymore LOL I got nailed last Wednesday on the back or my arm by a red and black one and swelled up from shoulder to elbow I've never had a reaction so bad but by Friday I was sick and the only thing I could think it might have been was from the sting my whole arm was hot like with a fever I didn't have any onion but would have tried that had I known,

Tropical hibiscus won't over winter here, but hardy hibiscus will.
I got a start from Nanakats hibiscus at POOPS a couple years ago and I brought it in for the winter it did just fine, However, I learned the hard way that despite heat or cold the silly thing could not survive overGOATing the same thing is happening to my varigated cane, as well as looking like candy cane it tastes just as good to them LOL

Onion on wasp stings? Never heard this. Does it work pretty good? We've been fighting yellow jackets for about a week now. Haven't been stung (yet) but it's just a matter of time.
I have found at least six nests in the last couple of weeks they are bad this year and knock on wood only stung once, The offending nest I had was under a bird feeder in front of the house, I was replacing the phone line and ran it up close to them it was the smacking of the tossed roll of wire that really got their attention I dropped the wire and stood as still as I could while at least 20 wasps went crazy 4 feet from me, after several minutes only three or four were still flying around I started inching backwards and as I turned I guess the white of the back of my arm was enough to make one of them charge and it hit like an arrow it really didn't hurt for a couple of minutes while I looked for and found my torch and propane tank, (I was reminded of the line from the movie Scent of a woman when Al Pacino says "I oughta' take a flame thrower to this place!") I was enjoying the thought of getting even, I crept up too about three feet from it took aim and squeezed the handle and *POOF* it went out, I probably looked like an idiot running across my yard with a propane tank in my hand but my second attempt was successful although I do need another bird feeder now.... and an onion or three...
