***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks, no, but currently no way to transport, our transmission is history until dave fixes it, so we are borrowing a vehicle, so the in laws wouldn't want ducks in their car - lol- he seems to be doing ok, i feel sorry for him, he hangs out by the runs for company
I had a couple of chickens in my duck run and they were peaceful companions.
Let me know when you are ready. One of the Cayuga duck hens is crested.

Hi Okies! I recently moved to Mcloud, OK and I'm looking for fellow chicken lovers in the Shawnee/Harrah/Eastern OKC area. I would love to find someone that would be interested in "chicken-sitting" while I am on vacation. I would return the favor anytime you go on vacation! I wouldn't expect you to come over all the time, just a couple times during the week. When I leave, I have my chickens set up so they have plenty of food and water for several days, I just want to know someone is checking up on them so I don't worry. I would love to find someone that has some chicken experience.

Also, if you aren't interested in trading, I would be happy to pay someone to come look after my babies.

I have 5 hens and 1 rooster although I will probably be adding more in the future.

Thanks!

Lora
You might check with McLoud HS FFA. There might be a student who would like the opportunity of assisting you.

Just rehomed a young roo and a hen today. I had too many chickens in the enclosure. Wasn’t sure who should go. I chose the more relaxed roo and one of my feistier Buff O hens that is sort of a loner. They’re going to an acreage where they can free range and there are no other chickens yet. I hope they do well and don’t get eaten by predators.

Haven’t heard a peep from the coop and run all afternoon. Not even from the remaining roo. No eggs today either. They’re all probably still trying to process what happened. Now I’m wondering what will happen with the flock dynamic.

Did the people not have a coop? Time to teach them responsibility when it comes to chickens. That's sad :(

Well, they’re in their 70’s. I don’t feel right telling them how to do anything, know what I mean? I didn’t have any better rehoming options, and so they were doing me a favor just as much. As long as the chickens are smart enough to hang around their donkeys while they’re foraging, they might be fine.

I gave them 7 chicks this summer. 4 got taken by coyotes quickly, so the rest went to their son’s place while they made repairs and reinforcements to the coop. They’ve pretty much been adopted by their grandkids, so they won’t be coming home. I figured I’d give them another shot at it with a pair.

I also had reservations, but I also understand not everyone keeps their chickens penned up 24-7 like I do, and predators happen. I’m not going to judge these folks for one strike. But, if they lose these, they won’t be getting more from me, I’ll tell you that.

Rehoming always has its pros and cons. Hope for the best.

Had a coyote come into the barn the other afternoon while I was putting fresh hay in the nest boxes in the hen house. The chickens went nuts. I was able to shut the barn door trapping the coyote in the barn and called the chickens back into the hen house and secured them. Went for the 22 loaded with rat shot. and it misfired twice. Had to wait for the hub to get home with the big guns. We have so much equipment in the barn including fuel so needed to be careful. During the wait, the coyote scrambled under the chain link gate over the door to the calving pen. Hope it doesn't come back anytime soon. Never had a predator come that early in the day.

North American Poultry Breeders APA National Meet in Shawnee this weekend.

Will probably stop in just to see what real chickens look like compared to the mutts I have at home..

I didn't think there would be chickens at the National APA meeting that I heard was this weekend. Have you heard something different?

The 102nd Annual Oklahoma State Poultry Show will be December 8, 2018 at the Shawnee Expo Center and the catalog for the show indicates there will be an APA District meeting then too. The show is only that one day. Judging starts at 9 am.
Entries for the show must be postmarked no later than Nov 16. Birds can be cooped beginning Friday evening beginning at 3 pm until 9 pm and then Saturday morning beginning at 7 am.
