***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Had to "wean" Lucie's babies. The Minorca CW was grabbing it's siblings by the toes and shaking...cutting into the toe. Then Lucie started to peck at the wounds. Pulled all three, bandaged the two tiny toes and set the three babies in two cages side by side. The big bully is separated for the time being in a cage by itself.
The chick on the left is a CW Minorca...the bully..probably a roo. The one on the right is an Australorp/CW cross. Should make a nice layer and meat cross. Hiding underneath is the SLW shown below. You can see the difference in the size of the chicks and the little toes.

Everyone's chicks are sooooo cute!

I want babies this year too, I want some NN's. But I have to get my coop and fence finished first, well at least the coop and a temporary fence.

Ksane these are Cochins
A pure breed baby from Delilah and Samson

And an Aussie Cochin or if Blue on Bluecan give black, then this one could also be pure...there are feathers on the two front toes.... Will have to let this one grow a little....

nanaKat,
Blue x Blue will produce some black so it is possible. Check the two middle toes and the comb as well as the amount of down on the legs. The Crosses will not likely have any feathering on the middle toe and will have less down on the legs.
Then with the exception of the single comb from teh Columbian the wyandotte x will be rosecombed.

OMG the baby pictures are so darn cute. Totally a sucker for cochin babies. They are the cutest IMHO. I can't wait till hatching season starts. Bearded, fluffy butts!!!!

Well I finally installed the two shut-off valves to the waterlines to the back bathroom. Now demolition can start.

I am going to put a coat of primer paint on the vanity I purchased at Habitats. Still need to buy a couple of sheets of plywood for the floor and thinner stuff for the walls. Totally gutting and rebuilding this bathroom, but it will look lovely once it is done. Now if I can only find the fixtures and sink top, I know they are around here somewhere. hehehe! Actually I think they are buried in the storage building. Guess I know what I am going to be doing next weekend.

Has anyone on here ever re-enameled a bathtub???? I was told you can buy kits for fairly cheap, which is good because to pay to have it done is like $400 and I am on a bit of a budget. Everything other then that will be easy-peasy to do myself. Just grateful I have the know how to do these things because I could not afford to pay to have it done.

Well now the water is back on better go do dishes and boil eggs for a big pot of egg salad.

This is egg week here at the homestead. Have to do something with the 8 dozen eggs in the fridge.

Hi Carla!!!! We are all missing you and Gerald. Hope you get some time to come to one of the auctions.

Got back from Blanchard. Did not buy a thing but Mike is hooking me up, so even if I got out of there without buying any chickens, I am going to get chickens anyway. Whoot! Whoot! Spent the evening with a bunch of BYCers. It was lovely hanging out talking chickens.

Hello Carla, miss you!

Hi Rebecca & MJ & all BYC Okies !!! I miss ya'll too. I've been having to work way too much overtime .... 10 hour days (nights) and the only time I get off is every other weekend. I haven't managed a free Saturday night in I don't know how long. It's depressing. I'm stuck at work once again tonight, but I brought my laptop with me to check out BYC when not too busy. It helps me improve my attitude, lol. I guess I've been a bit depressed lately ... too much overtime, too little sleep, winter, etc. ... and mom passed away a few months ago.

I sure look forward to Spring and visiting with chicken-crazed Okies soon. Definitely need some fun, relaxation and entertainment & my fellow BYC Okies are what I need to make me feel better. Hopefully Monty will anounce a time & date for spring POOPS so I have something to look forward to. I also hope to be able to attend a few poultry auctions in the near future. Hmmm .... just looked at the calendar & my next available weekend is Feb 18-19. I sure hope somebody has a poultry auction that weekend.

We still have too many birds, but I shut off our incubators a few months ago, so we haven't been expanding any although our feed bill keeps getting higher & higher & higher. I've listed birds (mostly roosters and turkeys) & goats for sale on craigslist lately, but it's tough to sell with the odd hours we're available.

Can't wait to hang out with fellow Okies again ....

My grandmother did all the cabinets in her kitchen and rebuilt the pantry/laundry room. Women can learn to use power tools too!
