Hope everyone has a better day than i had , tossed out 73 eggs from the brooder that should have hatched, checked each one and only had 5 that did , not a good percentage, anyone else having trouble with this at this time.

I guess if it wasn't so cold it would have been fine.Sooner, You are most welcome.
Sooner and POCO...I have enjoyed this book on bees First Lessons in BEEKEEPING by C. P. Dadant ... so much so that when I misplaced the first copy, I bought a second. one. It is a Dadant publication and costs about $7. You should be able to find it on Amazon. I bought mine at the army surplus store at 10th and Western in OKC.
My Cochin hen Delilah always lays her egg in a nest box on the floor. Because of all her feathers the wet egg sticks to them and drys. When she gets up, if I'm not there to catch her to remove the egg, it will be somewhere on the floor. I have to check where I step when I go gather eggs. I guess I'll just have to pull a few more feathers.![]()
Hi dmedlin and. Glad you found us here on the Okie thread. Lots of friendly, helpful folks here. It's hard (for me) to tell what kind of chickens you have because the picture is so small. If you post it on the thread as a photo someone will likely be able to identify them for you.![]()
Kass - cool spider. There are some pretty ones, but have never seen a purple one. Maybe you'll get to see that one again and snap a pic of it.
Well, since no one responded to my Wonder Egg post from earlier today, I'll assume that no one has tried growing them before. The plant is supposed to get over 2 ft tall, have purple blooms then develop "eggs" that start out white then turn yellow. I'm excited to see how it turns out.
No snow here yet. My friends in Cache report that the ground is covered in snow there.
Edited post to say that the "eggs" turn yellow, not purple.
that doesnt work on this junky laptop, may try it from work tomorrow.
I have one of those coops you're talking about. Do your chickens go into it by themselves in the evening? Mine did at first then after awhile they wouldn't go in there. Recently I placed a light in there. Now they'll go into it by themselves sometimes.
Hmmm we might have to go then, lol. My son got a OEGB (we think) rooster, he is the sweetest thing. He was going cheap and so we bought him for $4. I am sure he isn't "show or breeder" quality. But my 9 year old just loves him and the rooster seems to think Nathanael is all that and more. He sits on Nathanael's shoulder and lets him pick him up without question. He runs from everyone else. We bought a little hen for him on Thursday in Maude but she is not very active and had some pasty butt today so will see if cleaning that up makes her a bit more active. We have her in quarentine until we know for a fact she isn't sick. But we got 2 other little roosters that came with Nathanael's that need a girl friend lol. Nathanael is now drawing up plans for his little rooster and hen to have a big cage in our classroom (we homeschool), lol.mabee i should bring some OEGB to the auction at coweta and see what hapens i thing i have some breeder birds to sell
New to forums and not really sure how they work. But I live in Coweta and my family is excited about going to the auction in our town. We started our flock about 8 months ago and love it. Never had chickens before. Looking forward to being more involed and informed on BYC's.
