I had a bunch of laying hens once that I only wanted egg production from and they started going broody so I ran out of cages to break them up real quick, and an old farmer told me to feed them crushed red pepper and they won't sit and go broody, I added it to their feed a few times and never had another broody in two seasons out of close to 100 hens we had RR Reds, BR, and Dominques all are prone to be good broodies so I would say first take a look at if your using red pepper to worm them with it may be having the same effect as it did for me, It may be an old home remidy or wives tale but I swear by how well it worked for me LOL

So, anybody want some good Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd adult males that are good with chickens and goats? They are protective and love to snack on possums, raccoons and such.
Buster I would be tempted to add another to our place but the male Pyrenees we have kept tearing up the male Anatolian- Pyrenees mix we had. He gets along well with small dogs - guess bigger dogs are more threatening so he refuses to befriend them.

Guy I was eyeballing that post for the dogs, I could use a couple that are good with chickens and goats,
However,, I don't need the competition for raccoons and possums they ARE the OTHER Dark Meat, you know!!

Tonight garden class was on pest control. Dogs were recommended to control 4 legged fur bearing animals-- however they say dogs won't help with insects. *** I am thankful our 3 dogs chase most things away-- just wish they would lay off the porcupines & skunks.

speaking of skunks, i'v had to dispose of 2 in the last two days that were caught in live traps. luckily a coworker told me to slowly put some type of cover on the cage and i could pick it up. suprisingly it works. no spray and i was able to move it to where it was safe to be disposed of.

Buster if you all the dogs aren't spoken for pm me

for all you peeps that want a lgd, i have one of the pups Buster gave away last spring, i can't say enough good things about the one i got from him

Well off to get some birds ready for a show saturday and next saturday, as well as a few others for a demonstration at the schools tomorrow. I wil bounce back on and off periodically through the day..
If anyone needs to contact me for anything calling would be best.

NanaKat,
Your OE eggs are all fertile, the others look good so far too.

Thanks Carl. Will check with you Wed about picking up the hatched cochins. Looking forward to the Spangled OEGBs to hatch. Good luck with the show.

guys! what do i do with a cracked egg almost ready to hatch!!! can i use newskin?

a thin line of candle wax over the crack would seal the crack without building up too much.

Buster take me, take me.:ya I have been gone all day and took awhile to catch up. I saw this and figured by time I got caught up I would see where they were already taken. But lo and behold didnt see any no such thing. I been looking for chicken dogs for some time. Had a pup, didnt work out. I would sure be interested in one or two of them suckers. I also been meaning to holler at you to ask if I could come down and look at your chicken tractors you got here while back. I may have located a cotton trailor and was wanting to get some ideas from yours. call me sometime and we can talk about dogs. 580-919-7691

Cowboy, you get first dibs. Give me a couple of days to decided which one or ones.

That wagon is really working out well. Locked the girls in a couple of weeks and now it is home to them. Roll it to new ground every few days or so.

You're up early

, Buster. Our dog woke me, and DH is sawing logs at a roof-raising volume, so I'm reading posts. Are you a late night owl, or just an early bird?
