***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi Muesky; Good to know there are other chicken lovers close at hand. We are at 84th and Alameda St. Love it where we live and will NEVER move back into town.

Well I don't really like Day Light Savings because I usually end up staying up too late. I was really productive when I got home. Got the frame for another kennel aka breeder pen put together. Had to cut a bunch of pipes since this was a total modification from the original design but will be far more functional. Now I just put the fence on and roof and it is done.

Bit off the chicken topic but I have been listening to Johnny Cash the last few days. I found a on youtube a collection of 100 of his songs. Was shocked at some of the songs he did. The coolest one so far was Personal Jesus that was originally done by Depeche Mode and was also done by Marylin Manson (which I like) but my favorite songs of his is Hurt and Ring of Fire. I am not really into modern country music but like the old stuff, like Cash, Patsy Cline, Dolly Pardon, Hank Williams and his son. This is what I grew up with, guess that is why I like it. Reminds me of my family.

Okay I need some good juju sent my way. I decided to apply for a state job and would really like to get this job. I am highly qualified for the job, it pays a lot more and it is a change from teaching, which I think I need.

Hey Grace, good to see you on the board. Think you guys will be able to make it to POOPS? Hope everything is going well.

Sorry to hear about your birds. I have had a run of stuff before. It sucks but just make sure to isolate the sick birds from the healthy birds. It may not just be cocci. There are respitory stuff that can mask as other things and drop a bunch of birds before you even know any birds have it. Once again sorry your babies are sick.

I am thinking of trading with people at the farmers market when it starts in April. That way I can get some produce I want, get rid of the plethora of eggs accummulating in my fridge and people get fresh eggs. Win- win situation!

Way to go Buster!!! Congrats!!!

Creme Brulle is really good and it is like a custard. Can't wait til the DD gets home, she makes the best creme brulle.

We are practically neighbors in country speak. I live south of highway 9 and 180th in the Little Axe area.
Hot wire and good fencing. Both breeds are hard dogs to train to away from dogs especially if they are older dogs. Good luck!

Do the brooders have solid wood floor or wire (sorry on my phone). DH & I talked about using old plastic office chair mats to go down on wooden floor brooders. Our thoughts are the wood would stay dry & it would be easier to clean. We never tried it out but in my mind it worked well. Thankfully ours all have wire floors now, so easy to clean.

The floors are solid wood (painted since it was already in the house). We talked about wire but we thought we would try this first. I want it where I can lift off the front panel and sweep it out and then scrub it down with Oxine between batches of chicks. We can always add wire bottoms to them later if I find that will work better. Since I have been using plastic tubs that I could bleach easily for brooders in the house, this is a huge step up, haha.

So are you going to set yours tomorrow??

That's my plan. I'm getting duck and chicken eggs so I'm going to set the ducks tomorrow and then the chickens saturday.

I like the office mat idea, not slick, but easy to clean. Good idea!

Buster, sorry about your pups, hope they mend quickly and whatever it was is caught soon. Maybe it got the worst of the fight.

Cowboy, you will find once you sleep better you will feel better during the day. Our old pastor had apnea and said it was amazing how much better he felt during the day once he wasn't snoring all night.

Hubby finished the brooders (well minus paint but that will wait until summer when I'm not hatching anymore chicks for a while). Here are a few pictures.

Here they are in the works, he made them where all the dividers come out so I can make bigger brooders if I need to. Poor little darlings will have to listen to the washers and dryers going most all day (yes we have 2 of each but with 6 kids it is a must, lol). The fronts slide out as well to make cleaning easier. They are on a pedistal that came out of the house's original closets. It has 4 drawers in it so now I can keep extra feeders and what not down there.

Here they are with their wire covers, hubby has now decided he wants to put wire inserts in the doors on top as well so he will add those this week.

here are last weeks hatch exploring their new brooder.

and last but not least the little banty cochin brooder. These guys crack me up. They were running around spreading their wings like they were big guys. They are a blast to just sit and watch. Told hubby I need wire fronts so I can sit down there and just watch them play.

Bravo! He is very handy!!!!
