One more Okie to the list ;-) I live in a very small town in Oklahoma!

Went to Newcastle, got a number and left.

My Silkie chicks have splayed legs. Tried doing the band-aid thing which I hate since they have feathers on their legs. But I don't know that I even did it right. And I'm afraid I'm just going to lose these two. So. No more hatching eggs out for me. they were the only Silkie eggs to do anything and one of them just rarely even tries to move. I'm so broken hearted. All I wanted was a couple of Silkies and I don't think I'm going to even get that now if I lose these two.

I really like the idea of using the natural herbs for the insecticide tea! I have heard good things about wormwood but thought I had to get it at the health food store.

Never even thought of growing it myself!! We all have sensitive skin here and I get my laundry detergent from a friend who makes it herself. I do not know what is in it, all I know is our clothes are cleaner, smell better, and are softer. She sells it for only $3 a gallon and that dilutes to 2 gallons. It lasts forever, no one has had any break outs since starting it and our allergy pill usage is down! I wonder how the soapwort would work for household cleaning? Hmm that could really help here!! My oldest son is allergic to bleach fumes. It gives him a massive migraine. If there have been colds or viruses in the area and I really need to go over the house with bleach water he has to go outside till everything is dry. And that is a VERY weak bleach water dilution.

All the sites say it is a good houshold cleaner and laundry soap too. It is easy to make 1 cp plant to 1 pnt water bring to a boil, cool and stain. They say if you are using for person cleaning (body or hair ) use distilled water and a germ inhibitor. It will foam up well by itself or you can put it in a foaming pump. All this is just what I've read I haven't tried any of it yet. They say the plant is extremely easy to grow also and will tolerate even poor soils and is pretty drought tolerant.

Most cleaners especially the more potent ones give me a big ol' asthma attack. Perfumes too. The worst are anything aerosol sprayed (static gaurd, deoderants, cleaners etc....)

Hatching Update.....Well the little belgian d'anver chick kept trying to squeeze into the shell with the GS marans chick that was hatching!! All he managed to accomplish was push the lower half of the shell off of the GS. There was a little blood residue in the GS shell so I hope it will be okay. Now the belgian is egg hopping!!!

He looks like a tight rope walker right now. Maybe I should have put a divider in the hatcher.... Good grief the way I am running around here you would think a person was giving birth!! Even my parents keep calling to see how many are out.

I'm so sorry I know how heart breaking it is to lose chicks you had your heart set on. I imagine it's even worse when you incubate them and watch them hatch.

ok, first off, give the little guys some vitamins in their water- what other symptoms- you may be able to help them, don't give up yet.... where are you located?

You have reached a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

Disclaimer: Some of the folks on this thread are addicted to hatching eggs, attending poultry auctions or otherwise acquiring poultry. Since addicts tend to be enablers, we may try to assist you in the acquisition of more poultry than you ever thought possible to feed and house.

What kind of poultry do you have and what kind are you seeking to acquire?
